Terminology[edit]

In anthropological circles, these types of family groups are almost exclusively referred to as "lineages" in modern work (see Myron Cohen "Kinship, Contract, Family, and State," 2005, and Baker's "Chinese Family and Kinship," 1979). "Clans" are more commonly used to refer to ad-hoc organisations of lineages with the same surname (frequently without a definite common ancestor). I wonder if the article should make note of this distinction or possibly be renamed? I have changed the title to the more appropriate "kin".--Aethelwolf Emsworth (talk) 10:33, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I think that Chinese lineage associations should be merged into Chinese kin. It's a one-section stub that can easily be placed into this article under the "Kinship corporation" section. Edderiofer (talk) 02:52, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
