This article still fails to meet the good article criteria by a significant margin. A lot of work has been done on the article, but I don't think enough of that work has been targetting the concerns raised before. Most noticably, the article is still lacking references throughout. The lead does not need references, as anything in the lead should be elsewhere in the article, and referenced in the body, rather than the lead. Therefore all of those references should be removed and added (if they are not already) to the relevant section in the body of the article. Sentences such as "They are the most successful and consistent team in IPL history." definitely need a reference. My rule of thumb is to reference everything and for a GA this is probably the wisest thing to do. However, a more general strategy is to read through each sentence or claim, and if it draws a "says who" response, it definitely needs a reference.

I'm also not convinced about the level of detail: each sub-section of the history section goes into great detail about a lot of the matches: more than is probably necessary in this article. It might be worth creating articles for each season of the franchise, such as can be seen at Somerset County Cricket Club in 2009. This sub-article will benefit from the level of detail provided, and then the parent article can provide more of an overview of the history. A secondary benefit of such sub-article would be that the number of tables at the bottom of this article would reduce: in terms of vertical height I'd suggest that over half of this article is lists: more balance is needed; the lists should just be aids to the prose, not vice versa.

I would suggest merging the roster and the salaries into one list, again the player roster as Somerset County Cricket Club could be used as a template, with an added column for the salary. Also, the salaries definitely need references. There is little information on the creation of the franchise when the IPL started: was there always going to be a team in Chennai? Did the city have to bid for it, were there other bidders besides India Cements? How was the team received at its formation? I think there certainly needs to be more added to the article about N. Srinivasan effectively owning CSK while running the BCCI: it seems very strange to me, and something worth discussing.

I would move the "former players list" into another seperate article; something like List of Somerset CCC Twenty20 players (I only keep using Somerset because I know they have these articles!) This article could go into more detail and again, remove the excess of tables from this parent article.

If suitable references can be found, it might be worth providing some information on the team's logo and uniform colours, as can be seen in Manchester United F.C., and ground details, such as included in that article could be added.

In conclusion, I feel I have no choice but to fail this article at the current time, but hopefully the points above can help work the article towards this goal in the future. Harrias talk 16:01, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
