I just did a fairly major edit. The previous version did not jibe with the facts at all where major certification labels or marks are concerned. For instance, there is no such thing as "UL approved", a misnomer that routinely sends chills up UL staff council's spine. I have worked for decades in this field and would point any doubters of my prose to the externally linked pages I added, starting with those of ULC [1] and SCC [2].--Achim 03:36, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with File:Norma Oficial Mexicana logo.png[edit]

The image File:Norma Oficial Mexicana logo.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. Why do the bots keep flagging the trademark images[edit]

Whoever put in the "fair use rational" things for the images (see above) needs to learn the basics of trademark fair use. The images are being used to describe what the marks cover, not to certify this page as being kosher in Mexico. Not all conformity marks are certification marks[edit]

This page is about certifiation marks, but it should be considered, that the CE marking is not a certification mark. The CE marking is defined in the directives of the European Union, the manufacturer of the product has to mark the products with the marking, after confirming the applicable requirements described in the directives, regulations or standards on the EC declaration of conformity. Clean up tagged material[edit]

Removed Integrative Pastoral Medicine[edit]

I've removed the entry for Integrative Pastoral Medicine, as it's primarily an advertisement for a non-accredited, non-scientifically-recognized organization of dubious legal status. Calling something "pastoral medicine" is a legal technique that allows, among other things, non-doctors to claim that any medical advice they give to patients is actually "pastoral" (spiritual guidance) and therefore legal. So far this hasn't held up in courts. (Note that in the US, giving professional medical advice to patients is illegal without a state-issued license.) This is NOT a recognized medical certification or license. The certification doesn't even seem to have published requirements. This particular entry was added by "Rabbishalom", and the CEO of the Integrative Pastoral Medical Association is Dr. Shalomim HaLahawi, who is a rabbi. This page is quite incorrect and very sparse[edit]

Hello all! I'd like to make some major updates to this page: First, I'd like to correctly distinguish between collective and certification marks as designed by WIPO under the TRIPS agreement - happy to take care of this. Additionally, I'd like to identify the major categories of certification marks - source, materials, and labor - and distinguish from other forms of identifying IP (geographic indicators, etc.), as well as list examples. Conformance / compliance mark[edit]

I removed this term from the article for now, as it needs to be defined using at least some reputable WP:RS (and no, an apparently commercial site is not a good source).
The list of examples needs to be reworked using some source. For example, the CE mark does not seem to belong there, our article describing it states in the lead (AFAIK, correctly): "It is not a quality indicator or a certification mark".

Certification marks and approvals[edit]

I have separated the text on this subject into a section for convenience. As-si, it is not supported by any source and is very confusing. The certification mark is described in the laws. What is "approval"? The building inspection apparently described there is not a certification mark by any means. I removed text about an insurance company as it has nothing to do with the subject.
