Sounds like an advert[edit]

Apologies if it does - it wasn't meant to. This follows on from an article I wrote on the offshore magic circle relating to the key law firms in the major offshore jurisdictions. Cains are the principal law firm on the Isle of Man (they are largest - not sure if they are also the oldest - got to do research), and I just haven't got round to putting anything more germaine on the page yet. They are not alone; I have started stubs for quite a few offshore firms in Category:Offshore law firms but I haven't had a chance to bulk them up much as yet. But it is certainly not intended to be advertising or spam. Legis 17:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think it sounds like an advert either, if no-one mind i'll take the tag off -- Librarianofages 02:49, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination[edit]

Not much to add beyond what I put above. I started this article as a part of a series on offshore law firms based on the offshore magic circle article (see also: Conyers Dill & Pearman, Harneys, Hassans etc.), which is still a bit of a long term work in progress. It is not remotely intended to be an advert - I am not connected with Cains (I have never even been to the Isle of Man) - but I do except that it is a poor stub and needs a lot of work. But a leading law firm in a key offshore financial centre I think is sufficiently notable. I have no objection to it going through the AfD process if others disagree about notability or otherwise, but it probably should not be speedied. --Legis (talk - contribs) 17:02, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your additions to the article as they cite sources, but I don't think this article meets the notability requirements of WP:CORP and is likely to be a prod/AfD nomination sometime in the future. Perhaps a honourable mention for the firm would be better in list of Legal Week award winners? I don't know how notable that publication is, but as this article stands, I don't think it has enough content or context to stand alone. --Gavin Collins (talk) 13:46, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hear what you say, but I still think the subject matter is sufficiently notable notwithstanding the current limitations of the article. The most significant law firm in a major offshore financial centre passes WP:CORP. The fact that I am (still) unable to dig up decent data to bulk out the article affects class but not notability. --Legis (talk - contribs) 12:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
