What are the provisions of this treaty? A list of signers and non-signers doesn't tell us much of anything. Ortolan88

International[edit]

As CITES is an international agreeemnt, it would be intersting to see a CITES artical on many different language wikis and fully incorporated in each wiki. Snowman 08:53, 31 October 2006 (UTC) The official CITES website at www.cites.org is in three language versions, English French and Spanish. So perhaps this can help. Name of page[edit]

Use of this page[edit]

At first, I thought this page had a copyright violation in it, because it shares some of the wording with http://www.itto.or.jp/live/Live_Server/1637/E-C41-18.doc but apparently, that document copied this! It is dated October 11, and it shares some sections about the background of CITES with sections of this page that are dated earlier. LittleDan^talk 20:40, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other kingdoms than Animalia and Plantae[edit]

As of writing the Wikipedia page says that the CITES list protects enangered plants and animals. However, does the treaty really and explicitly exclude other regna, such as Fungi? –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 05:12, 11 December 2016 (UTC).[reply]

The initial clause of the initial sentence of the Preamble in the text of the Convention reads: "Recognizing that wild fauna and flora in their many beautiful and varied forms are an irreplaceable part of the natural systems of the earth which must be protected for this and the generations to come;" (see https://cites.org/eng/disc/text.php#texttop). Appendices I, II and III to the Convention are lists of species afforded different levels or types of protection from over-exploitation (see https://cites.org/eng/app/index.php). Tusk selling by wildlife parks[edit]

In some instances, wildlife parks may decide to remove the horn of animals as a preventive measure against poaching. Animal horns can be safely sawn off without hurting the animal (it is similar to clipping toe nails).

Can horns, obtained in this way be legally sold under CITES by wildlife parks to help fund their own operation ? Mention in article. --Genetics4good (talk) 10:36, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The American alligator use to thrive in the REO grand river . Why don’t we repopulate the endangered animals again. We could use alligators from other states to repopulate the region. The American alligator had lived in all the the Rivers tributaries. I say repopulate our endangered animals.[edit]

We must try to help repopulate the American alligator in the REO grand river, because they were all up and down this river during the days of the Indians. We must try to repopulate this endangered animal in there natural habitats. That were all up and down the river and it’s tributary’s. We must make it like it was before.
