Allison Janney, portrayer of C. J. Cregg
Allison Janney, portrayer of C. J. Cregg
To T:DYK/P2
  • ALT0a: ... that despite perception of sexist tropes in The West Wing's women, C. J. Cregg (actor pictured) is widely considered to have depth and wit rivalling or exceeding the show's men?
  • ALT7 ... that The West Wing's C. J. Cregg went from being "the most underwritten role in the pilot" to portrayer Allison Janney (pictured) winning four Emmys, more than any other actor on the show?
Struckthrough hooks
  • ... that despite The West Wing's sexist tropes in its female characters, C. J. Cregg (actor pictured) is widely considered to be a complex and witty character with intellect rivalling the show's men?
    • ALT1: ... that The West Wing's C. J. Cregg went from being "the most underwritten role in the pilot" to her portrayer (pictured) winning four Emmys, more than any other actor?
    • ALT2: ... that Allison Janney's (pictured) portrayal of C. J. Cregg on The West Wing won her four Emmys, more than any other actor on the show?
    • ALT3: ... that West Wing character C. J. Cregg (actor pictured) is frequently sexualized by other characters on the show?
    • ALT4: ... that 2020s White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has frequently been compared to the 2000s West Wing character C. J. Cregg (actor pictured)?
    • ALT5: ... that Aaron Sorkin denies all comparisons between The West Wing's press secretary C. J. Cregg (actor pictured) and former White House Press Secretary and show consultant Dee Dee Myers?
    • ALT6: ... that Allison Janney (pictured) was cast as The West Wing's C. J. Cregg after the show's creator saw Janney fall down a flight of stairs?

  • Comment: Claudia IV—and this one's my actual namesake. I am stunned and awed and overjoyed and very proud :D Since C. J. is the feminist character of the show, I'd like to request that this be ran during Women's History Month.

Overall: ALT0 is... not good to go for me, because it implies that the show does have sexist tropes, when it seems like only an opinion. ALT1 is good... Without context, ALT2 isn't very interesting to me... ALT3 seems to fall afoul of WP:DYKSG#C6; ALT4 is good for me, as is ALT5, though the latter is a bit vague for me... and ALT6 is my personal favourite :)
So, as a summary: ALT6, 1, 4 and 5 (that's the order of my personal preference, BTW) are good and ALT0, 1, 2 and 3 are not. I've struck the unapproved hooks for now; ping me if you fix anything. I'd be happy to take another look :) Pamzeis (talk) 10:56, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Drive-by comment. I favor ALT1 with image. I personally was a dedicated viewer of that show. All the characters and cast were great. But when it comes to Women's History Month, C. J. Cregg is the role model of an accomplished woman, and Allison Janey is the actress who made the audience believe that. — Maile (talk) 12:33, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ALT1's Emmys thing isn't factually accurate without the "on the show" of ALT2, though. —Kusma (talk) 13:02, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ALT7: ... that The West Wing's C. J. Cregg went from being "the most underwritten role in the pilot" to portrayer Allison Janney (pictured) winning four Emmys, more than any other actor on the show?
      You are correct - like this? — Maile (talk) 13:25, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      Thanks, both of ya :D theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 16:52, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for the speedy review, Pamzeis! :) I'm... not inclined to give up on ALT0 just yet, so I've proposed an ALT0a? ALT6 is the goofiest (and likely the hookiest), but this is one of those articles where running something substantial is a bit more important to me than maximizing view count. So, I'd rather ALT0a or ALT7—Maile is right, C. J. is absolutely a role model (for me too!) and these two hooks drive it home for me. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 16:52, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    :Yup, yup, yup. ALT0a and 7 are good :) Pamzeis (talk) 04:38, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

wikilinks to notable actors for characters that don't have an article?[edit]

Hey, @Theleekycauldron! Nice work! I don't like to futz with FAs without discussing first...is there a reason we didn't work in some mention of/link to a notable actor when the character isn't notable enough for an article? Like, Simon Donovan...shouldn't we somehow work in that he was played by Mark Harmon? Danny Concannon...can't remember the actor's name, but I'm sure he has an article. Valereee: Feel free! Just an oversight on my part :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 01:03, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm as you know not much of a pop culture editor, so if I do it wrong for MOS reasons or whatever, feel free to make any changes. :D Valereee (talk) 12:45, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Sexual harrassment[edit]

Full Disclosure (The West Wing) approximately 37 minutes in. It's a plot point, so usable as a self-source. But surely there must have been someone discussing this? Valereee (talk) 23:15, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
