Capital of Huye District[edit]

According to the article Huye District, the capital is Ngoma and not Butare. K9re11 (talk) 15:52, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoma commune was before 2002 the commune in which Butare was located, and the burgomaster of Ngoma was also said to be the "mayor of Butare" in sources I've seen. Uglemat (talk) 13:45, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

City renamed[edit]

According to Wikivoyage[1], the city changed its name to Huye in 2006. Should this article be renamed? Makkkkus (talk) 17:11, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Makkkkus: This is true, but while the name officially changed, I am not sure whether it was accepted and used - it certainly wasn't when I was there in 2011 - and per WP:COMMONNAME we should use the most widely understood name. Wikivoyage is a user-generated site like Wikipedia, so not a reliable source. The BBC World Service recently still call it Butare: [1]. Translated via google The city of Butare in Huye district. The New Times also continue to call it Butare: [2] but also Huye: [3]. It's a mess really and I'm not sure how to resolve it. SmartSE (talk) 09:59, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Capital of the Rwanda colony[edit]

I also believe Butare was the capital of the Rwanda Colony (as part of Ruanda-Urundi) administered by Belgium Vixalien (talk) 20:41, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
