The difference[edit]

@Peter Horn: the buffer is the whole shock absorber, the buffer plate is the flat, circular disc at the outer end which contacts the buffer plate of the next vehicle or buffer stop. Bermicourt (talk) 17:36, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Buffer lock[edit]

Retractable buffers[edit]

British Rail Class 73#Couplings mentions "retractible buffers" and they are implied on British Railways Mark 1 as well as on dual coupling. Could someone clarify this? Peter Horn User talk 17:13, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
