Womanzier in the U.S. Dance

Womanizer reach the #1 in the U.S. Dance chart? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.44.46.118 (talk) 02:45, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

No, it's currently reached #9 so far CloversMallRat (talk) 00:49, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Pop 100 data

I'm just wondering where all these random peak positions from the Pop 100 came from. They're listed for all of her singles since "... Baby One More Time" despite the fact that the chart has only existed since 2005. Have people just been pulling these figures out of nowhere, or are they actually based on real data? And even if the latter is true, should such data be included for those earlier singles even though the chart did not even exist at the time? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.171.124.237 (talk) 15:10, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Edit war

Could editors please discuss the issue of sales figures rather than revert without explanation? Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 21:20, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

There is this person who continues to inflate Britney Spears sales especilly the Nielsen Soundscan sales which have been confirmed.

Why the singles Irish peaks is not complete? I can not edit, I do not know why, if someone can do it, please complete it, and Gimme more was not number 3 the peak was #2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.7.161.51 (talk) 13:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

These "two" users may not be two users. I'm "they" are just one person who is using two or more counts.
Both User contributions are basicly the same:

Every day both users do vandalism in this page, using the same version of the page all the time.
It wouldn't surprise me if both users are the same person. Kraft. 22:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

My English is a disaster I don't understand how I should request that. Also I understand how fair use images should be used, but why you keep on inflating sales, using flag icons and adding small markets to the singles table? Kraft. 17:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Er, I'm not... --Mel Etitis (Talk) 19:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

You're totally wrong, ups numbers? can you red this, please? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Britney_Spears_discography&action=history
I've been adding sources for about six months, read the whole talk page and then you'll understand what I'm talking about. You've changed the format of the page, I just restored it. Page said 85 million ww? what the f***? I've changed to 76 mill. according to the real source. Kraft. 07:48, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Format

I've reverted once again to something resembling MoS and WikiProjecy format. The tables are still far too tarted up, but that's a minor point. The number of problems introduced by various editors is astounding: aside from some people's insistence on reverting to the version with copyright-violating images, there's a host of formatting weirdnesses, such as dates — what on Earth is going on with formatting like this: 2006-09-15? It's as though people sat down and tried to work out how many ways they could violate the MoS.

If figures are wrong, then by all means correct them (with explanations and sources, of course), but if people continue to revert to poor formatting and especially to the misuse of images, they'll be blocked for disruption. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 20:47, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Certifications are not the same thing as sales. They represent the amount shipped not sold. By removing the US sales from the chart you are removing valuable information. I suggest you put the US sales somewhere in the article. 8.04 21:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Fine, if the sales can be verifiably sourced, put them in the article. If they're put in along with all sorts of other reversions to poor formatting etc., though, then I'll revert rather than go through the tedious business of redoing all my work. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 21:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Clearly Britney's discography is one of the most watched on Wikipedia but if you are trying to revise hers to meet Wikipedia's standards why have you done nothing about others including Christina Aguilera or Beyonce. The discographies were all in the same format until now. 8.04 02:07, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Because I'm one person, and trying to defend even a handful of articles against the idolatry, vandalism, and disruption of a bunch of adolescent boys with too much time on their hands is all that I can manage. With your help, and the help of a few others, we might be able to deal with more (but be warned: it's an uphill and frustrating task). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 10:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Mel, they were already cited. We went to great lengths to find out the truth a month ago. The numbers were botched and raised. It has been reverted. Maddyfan 06:04, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I think is a good idea if we include Ireland in the singles peak list, Britney has 8 numbers one there, I think we should include it. What you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.7.161.51 (talk) 11:07, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

A few days before I ask to add Irish singles peaks and someone did it, I do not understand why is not there again, Britney has a record with Madonna as the girl with more number one singles in the Irish chart with 7, please cand someone add it again, I can not edit this page, Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.7.161.51 (talk) 22:14, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Britney Clean-up

The whole thing (aka Britney) looks a mess at the moment: just about every table is in a different style. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 10:00, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I know, next week I'll try to fix it, but for now we just can revert inflated numbers. Kraft. 03:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Album Sales

This is a summary of the consesus reached regarding Album Sales for Britney Spears, the entire thread has been archived.

An opportunity was presented to all interested parties to submit a list of reliable sources for album sames, and this list has been evaluated by several administrators - resulting that the 76 million figure is the proper number for Wikipeida. Edits to the article which do not agree with this can, and will be promptly reverted, and edit wars will not be tolerated regarding this issue.

My two cents: Since this will probably continue to be disputed and will likely increase over time, it may be better to simply avoid sales figures all together. However, if we are going to use sales figures, then we must use the consensus above. Tiggerjay 00:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Circus is at 833,000 on the page, but the album sold 44,000 the week before according to mediatraffic, and it already debuted on the United World Chart, can someone please add these sales. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.45.195 (talk) 10:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

The overall sales throughout her career are pretty accurate. In fact, sources of variuos relevance all over the world claim she has sold between 83 and 88 million. If you want a list of websites (like Yahoo, AOL and others) which report these figures, check the paragraph "Britney Spears" in the discussion about the Wikipedia page "List of best-selling music artists", where I provided the link to just some of them. If you want to find gazillions, you just have to type "britney 83 million" into any search engine and you'll be directed to thousands of pages that mention the same figures. Dreamboy81 (talk) 17:37, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Circus did not sale 5 million copies! It sold around 3,5 million copies. You can count the sales of every week of "Circus" since the release at "mediatraffic.de" And "Circus" isn't in the World Charts any more. It fell out of the World Charts after 16 weeks. In The Zone sales

It's impossible that In The Zone sold 10 millions worldwide.. let's count: 2x Platinum in US: that means 2.000.000 copies sold 1x Platinum in Europe: that means 1.000.000 copies sold and so you wanna tell me, that In the Zone sold 7.000.000 copies outside US and EU????? That's pity! You should use references, please!!!!!Olliyeah (talk) 17:25, 21 May 2008 (UTC) Actually In The Zone sold around 3 million in the US, it just is certified at 2 x platinum for some obscure reason —Preceding unsigned comment added by B0y1718 (talkcontribs) 12:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

you are soooooo stupid 2003 platinum mean 2million is not same USA about 4 million —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macka7 (talkcontribs) 16:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm the person that edited it and claimed that In The Zine sold 10 million worldwide. Because it did. In 2003 In The Zone sold over 7 million copies, 5 years later, it at least sold another 3 million easily.Just because it was certfied 2 x platinum does not mean it sold 2 million in the US it could have 2.99 million eg. 3 million. also the RIAA havent updated their certifications in years! So In The Zone did sell over 10 million copies as of November 2008! Likewise ...Baby One More Time has sold over 30 million, Oops!...I Did It Again has sold over 24 million, Britney has sold sold over 15 million, In The Zone has sod over 10 million, Blackout has sold over 4 million, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative has sold over 10 million copies and B In The Mix-The REmixes has sold at least over 2 million. Please change them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.134.145.241 (talk) 23:02, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Irish chart

Okay the irish chart is contradictory. It says she's had 7 number one's but when you add them you get 9. I've checked the charts and some songs aren't on there i have the site here(http://www.irishcharts.ie/search/placement?page=2). I'm just wondering if somebody could clarify this as it's misleading. 89.100.221.196 (talk) 15:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that too. As of now Piece Of Me became Spears' 8th Irish number 1 single! The most by any other feamle artist! Womanizer is extremely popular now in Iteland on the radio and on iTunes so it'll probably be another number 1 hit, becoming her 9th! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.134.145.241 (talk) 23:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

As of October 2008 Blackout has sold over 930,000 copies in the US alone! The RIAA should certify it Platinun soon as by the end of November it is expected to sell over 980,000+ eg 1 million copies!

ALBUM COVERS IN THE TABLE

Adding the Covers to Britney's Albums does not go against non-free use.

If you go to the page of any of these images of the covers. they have a 'Non-free use media rationale' box. the Purpose of use states that:

"Image illustrates an educational article about the album from which the cover illustration was taken. It is used as the primary means of visual identification of the article topic; as such, it is a more appropriate image than any other available. It illustrates the appearance of the cover artwork."

-Each of these album cover images illustates this article which is about the albums themselves.
-They are only being used as visual identifcation for the albums.
-It illustates the appearnce of the cover artwork.

So adding these images violates nothing.

also, if you look at the licnesing or copyright box it states:

"This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the work or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers

-solely to illustrate the audio recording in question,

-on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law.
Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information."

-these images are of Low resolution being only 300x300 pixels.

-Adding these images illustrates and represnts each of their audio recordings

And thats why these images should be allowed to appear in the table.

-itsandrewomg

There seems to be a fairly wide community consensus that album covers are not used in lists, including discographies. If you want to see how widely held this viewpoint is - and I agree it's not universally accepted - go to Category:Discographies, click on a few random articles and see how many discographies contain album covers. Rossrs (talk) 09:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Refer Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Discography where it states album covers are not to be used in discographies. If you wish to add them again, you will first need to take your viewpoint to that project talk page, and have that decision reversed. Rossrs (talk) 09:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Why was "That's Where You Take Me" deleted from the discography? What reason does anyone have? It in fact was released in the Philippines. Irish Chart Mistakes

I checked these chart positions again and came across a few mistakes they're listed below:

Sometimes - highest placement was 5th not 3rd.

Stronger - highest placement was 6th not 3rd.

Overprotected - highest placement was 9th not 7th.

Boys - it says not charted when it charted at 10th.

Billboard Pop 100

The U.S. Pop 100 column is included in many other discographies: Christina Aguilera discography, Jessica Simpson discography, Taylor Swift discography, Kelly Clarkson discography, Leona Lewis discography, Pussycat Dolls discography, Katy Perry discography, etc.

Shouldn't a pop singer like Britney also have this column in her discography? An American pop singer should have her singles that charted on her country's official industry pop chart included in her discography. Thoughts? If the article's editors come to an agreement, I could begin adding the column. --Caponer (talk) 02:48, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't be this EP listed on the Albums section??? I mean, the EP is mentioned on the right board, but the link that appears on the EP section doesn't work. I added the EP to the section. However I did a little bit of searching around, and I couldn't find any sort of chart positions or sales for the disc. I guess since the EP came with the DVD, it would sell as many copies the DVD sold. However I haven't found that information either. Percxyz (Call me Percy, it's easier) 14:55, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Songs Written for Other Artists

I know that Britney wrote a song for BoA which was released as a promo single and later on her debut album BoA. Where should we put this song (and any other songs Britney may have written)? Tikkuy (talk) 14:45, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I dont think there should be a section for songs people have wrote for Britney. Only songs Britney has wrote for other people.

Because there could be a ton of unknown songs written for Britney. I myself have wrote a few things that I wanted to give to her, but never really have. And there are probably a million other people who have done so too, so no real need for that section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pornisha (talkcontribs) 18:20, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Certification section

I decided to remove the certifications section as many featured discographies do not have it included. Besides, certifications have significantly changed since 1999, when "...Baby One More Time" was released, until these days. Therefore, I do not think it is enough to include only one specification for the meaning of each platinum and gold award in each country, it would most likely look messy and full of unnecessary and excessive information. Thoughts? Kraft. (talk) 11:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I have no dispute with this and I agree, for reasons you've mentioned, Kraft. Go ahead. Percxyz (Call me Percy, it's easier) 06:00, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Question tho - if removed, where will this information go? Personally I don't have a strong opinion either way, but a certification is a certification, regardless of what it may represent at any given time. And there are a lot of discographies that do have the certs included. Has a definitive consensus been reached, perhaps at WP:DISCOGS? A gold single in the U.S. used to mean 1 million, but in the 1990s was changed to 500,000. Why don't someone change this picture to Britney singing RADAR on the tour, it's MUCH BETTER! PlatinumFire (talk) 18:56, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Did Britney wrote some of the b-sides like Walk on by, Right now, Girls & Boys......? Cause if she did that should be added to it aswell. PlatinumFire (talk) 19:00, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Britney's U.S Sales As of 2009 (UPDATED)

Britney's album sales in the U.S clearly needs to be updated, I added and edited it according to Nielsen SoundScan as of July 2009!

"U.S Sales As of July 2009 according to Neilsen SoundScan"

  • Baby One More Time (1999)- 10,534,000 copies (certified 14x platinum)
  • Oops!...I Did It Again (2000)- 9,184,000 copies(certified 10x platinum)
  • Britney (2001)- 4,336,000 copies (certified 4x platinum)
  • In The Zone (2003)- 2,970,000 copies (certified 2x platinum)
  • Greatest Hits: My Prerogative (2004)- 1,347,000 copies (certified platinum)
  • B in the Mix: The Remixes (2005)- 100,000 copies (no certifications since it didn't achieved the gold status, which means 500,000 copies sold)
  • Blackout (2007)- 967,000 copies (no certifications yet, although RIAA can certify an album platinum, which can range from 900,000 to 1,000,000 copies of sales level)
  • Circus (2008)- 1,575,000 copies (certified platinum)

Worldwide Sales: (First and foremost, I do not trust Britney's sales/worldwide figures appearing in her official website click here because some certification's there are false, and it doesn't have any inaccurate sources like Mexico's AMPROFON, Brazil's ADBP. In the country Philippines and Korea where both "Baby One More Time" and Oops! I Did It Again, received 10X platinum, has no official recording sales website to come up with, also like Indian and Turkish certification where it received 4 to 5 times platinum, and these countries doesn't have any real websites that can proved that it has been certified on that county like U.S's Billboard 200 and Canada's CRIA.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adelbutt123 (talkcontribs) 12:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! I noticed that, too. It is truly difficult to find a reliable source for worldwide figures unless a record label releases them.

Key cuts from remixed

People shouldnt include thah supossed EP cuz it was a promo, its not even an official EP, it was just for do a little promotion, maybe we should remove it from all the articles and just link it on the B in the mix article...just there...Fortunato luigi (talk) 05:18, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Fortunato luigi

    • Note that "i dont think so" is not a logic answer... the only reference to that supposed EP is a unknown web site, i dont think it is a reliable source, and i never heard before about that supposed EP, not from Britney or her website, not form iTunes, not form Sony, Jive, Zomba, anyone mention that EP Fortunato luigi (talk) 02:40, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
      • Sorry, I take back what I said previously. Discogs is DEFINATELY NOT an unknown website, it has over 200,000 visitors a day, but it has bootlegs and off-label releases, so Key Cuts From Remixed is probably a bootleg. Rogue Leader User talk:The Rogue Leader 28 August 2009 19:07
  • It is official!!! Look here (reliable website): [2]. Huh! And it is also listed here: [3]. It is some kind of a promo single/ep. PlatinumFire (talk) 18:13, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
  • No, it was there before we listed it on wikipedia and it says jive/zomba release. And "huh" wasn't anything bad! It was just that I got tired of searching 4 key cuts on the net, but u misunderstood its meaning............. PlatinumFire (talk) 18:59, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Okay, but still, if that's the only site you can find, doesn't that seem a bit odd? Kylie Minogue's promo EPs that she's released, there all listed on her official site. It would be better if we found a source more direct from Spears and/or her Record Company.Rogue Leader User talk:The Rogue Leader 31 August 2009 12:46 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.149.99.92 (talk) 10:46, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Europe Certifications and Japan Peak for Oops!

According to the page, neither Blackout or Circus have been certified in Europe, eventhough they reached #1. And another thing, why did Oops! only reached #67 in Japan? I SERIOUSLY doubt it. Rogue Leader User talk:The Rogue Leader 28 August 2009 19:04

Her last two studio albums reached #1 in Europe, however, quickly fell off the chart. Last time I checked both had only spent two weeks inside the top ten. And yes, "Oops!" peaked at #67 on the Oricon overall chart. You can ask any Japanese member to confirm this, he/she can check out the position on official Oricon web site.Kraft. (talk) 00:15, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Really? I wonder why though... Serously though in Europe, the albums must have been certified at LEAST silver--124.149.58.113 (talk) 07:43, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Worldwide Sales Update

According to "People Magazine", worldwide sales since October 7, 2002 for Britney's three albums since including;

Although sales were incredibly high for her fist two albums, but for her third self titled set..sales were down As of 2008, ...Baby One More Time hadsold more than 25 million albums worldwide according to Telegraph.co.uk News and Fox News. But after 7 years, sales for her albums must be higher.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Adelbutt123 (talkcontribs) 08:52, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't know why her official website shouldn't be taken as a reliable source, if they wanted to mask the sales to make 'em look higher, they could easily say In The Zone sold 10 + million since it's been in many place stating so, but also, her official website isn't updated to many things so shall not be taken as reliable source for that, also cause there it's said that BOMT has sold 22 million WW while many other places say it has come to 25 million and the same happens with "Britney" that is said to have sold 9 million in Britney.com, but many places say it has come to over 11 million.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zefron12 (talkcontribs) 00:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

List of Britney Spears songs

Since it was decided to keep the List of Britney Spears songs, a discussion should be had where to include what information, and what to make of the list. I personally would opt to include most notable information here, like maybe her writing credits, and turn the list into a tabular list that can be sorted, similar to List of The Beatles songs, but I know from the AfD that there are differing opinions on that.
Currently, the list contains lots of highly unreliable sources (forum comments, wikis), so it requires cleanup anyway, but determining where to draw the line between the discography and the list would be helpful.
Amalthea 10:48, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Well I Was thinking bout putting these songs into a new section: "DEMOS" --

  • 1999 - "Luv the Hurt Away" (featuring Full Force) (...Baby One More Time outtake) (produced by Full Force)
  • 2004 - "The Sin City Rap" (DJ Clinton Sparks Mixtape) (performed live in 2003 on MTV Punk'd show)
  • 2006 - "Little Me"
  • 2006 - "Rebellion"
  • 2007 - "Baby Boy" (Blackout outtake) (produced by William Anderson)
  • 2007 - "To Love Let Go"(Blackout outtake) (produced by Tom Caskey)

And merge the other "Unofficially released songs" into the main song list. So whatcha think about that?

And I think this song should not be listed here:

  • 2008 - "Dramatic" (Heidi Montag featuring Britney Spears) (unofficial duet) --PlatinumFire 14:08, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Original Doll

What is "The Original Doll" and where does it come in here?--The Rogue Leader 09:48, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

"Original Doll" stands for an unreleased (and also not confirmed) album from Britney that was expected to be released in 2004, but then she decided to do the first GH. "Original Doll" was never released and never even confirmed to be official, so shall not be included here at all! --Zefron12 (talk) 00:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

The original doll is confirmed, look at the page for the chaotic EP, and on http://www.britneyspy.com/2005/01/31/britney-angered-jive-with-mona-lisa-now-they-postponed-album/, it shows that Britney was recording the album , but because she aired Mona Lisa on KIIS FM, she angered JIVE, and thats why it never got released. RuuBjAh 15:51, 4 November 2009

I made a page for it. look at The Original Doll (album). RuuBjAh 20:11, 5 November 2009

^^Yes, i just saw it, and i just proposed it for deletion, sorry. The original doll was just rumored, it wasnt confirmed by BS label, or by herself, sorry but it has to go, so please, stop adding it and stop changing the articles, it can be included, cuz wiki need references (official sources, reliable sources, and no blog/rumors sorcues). Fortunato luigi (talk) 05:37, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

  • It wasn't confirmed by JIVE but it was confirmed by B. Spears - when she premiered Mona Lisa on the radio she said she is working on a new album and that working title is Original Doll and also MTV mentioned the album. But I think it's not notable enough. --PlatinumFire 17:19, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Boys

i have noticed that the us charting for "Boys" has been deleted several times, while it did not chart on the hot 100, it did under the bubbling under @ 22, the format of showing that chart is used for "My Perogative" "Do Something" "Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" and others, so i dont understand why "Boys" keeps getting deleted —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blackballoon222 (talkcontribs) 08:56, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

  • The bubbling under "peak positions" aren't enough notable to be included in the discography article - especially in the case with "Boys". --PlatinumFire 17:19, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Britney Spears' albums (sales)

Someone is making up random numbers. The person says that Britney's album sold 14.7 mill, but Soundscan said it sold 10.5 mill and went 14x platinum. We need to block him cos he's jacked up Britney sales. I wouldn't be surprises if it stated that her debut sold 50 mill a few weeks from now. You are rational thinker too!

I'm the same person who wrote the one above about her real album sales, but thanks! So are you! Phoenix V

Britney's Brazilian and Japanese Sales for In The Zone

Brazil:

'In The Zone' Certified Diamond In Brazil Britney Spears' 'In The Zone' is back to Brazilian's Top 40 CD Sales again this week (#37), and now 'Hot100Brasil.com' (Brazilian Official Chart) posted that 'In The Zone' has been DIAMOND Certified, confirming 'Not’cias Musicais' Unofficial Chart, which means sales of above 500,000.

Britney Spears is the first International Artist to receive the Diamond Certified since 1983 when Madonna recieved, so she was the most sucessfull artist this year here in Brazil, and probably since 1983.

This is BIG everybody! :D

Britney's album sales

Holla Back? Why do silly fans lie about sales, britney albums have sold a lot but as much as below, where is the internet for these sales please

  1. The reason I just changed the album sales is that at the certification part (when you count things up everything's right), when you compare it to what's noted at "the album stats", it's different.
  2. Britney's achievements says that IFPI and TIME Magazine confirmed that Britney's album sales topped 85 million. Now when you count them up (25+22+13+10+8+0.7) it's a total of 78 million... I just viewed this at EssentialBritneySpears.com (in French):

Now I understand it's just a fanpage so they can make things up, but when you count everything up, it turns up to be right as IFPI self confirmed the 85 million album sales. So I'm adding these results to wikipedia. The title on the site self says "Ventes Officielles De Britney Spears" which means "Britney's Official Sales" Anybody objects? -- Luigi-ish 19:09, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Lol, thanks -- Luigi-ish 19:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but unless these sales have been confirmed by Jive Records, they do not count. Those sales could have been made up by anyone as it is a fan site and not an official Britney Spears site. -- User:151.203.153.24
Those statistics were published by IFPI, that's pretty relyable to me! -- Luigi-ish 20:53, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

"B in the Mix: The Remixes

according to Entertainment Weekly and MTV it debuted at no.134 not 166.

(Entertainment Weekly) Out of the Zone Britney's latest CD lacks star presence

Hear about Britney Spears' new baby? Definitely. Hear about her new album? Um... Released Nov. 22 without the usual PR blitz, B in the Mix: The Remixes sold only 14,000 copies in its first week, debuting at No. 134 on Billboard's album chart. A rep for Spears' label, Jive, insists the former Queen Bee of Teenage Pop hasn't lost her touch. The disc of clubby remixes "was scheduled as a limited-edition fan piece," she says, adding that Brit's working on a full-length album for 2006.

In general, remix albums rarely find a mass audience (R. Kelly's recent remix record, Remix City Volume 1, debuted only at No. 72). But B in the Mix lacks a photo of Britney anywhere on the cover or CD booklet- a conspicuously low-profile rollout for an artist whose 1999 debut album has sold more than 10 million copies. "It doesn't seem like the best way to sell a Britney CD," says Carl Mello, senior buyer at New England's Newbury Comics music chain. "Though it's a good way to milk the catalog for a few extra dollars over the holidays." And someone does have another mouth to feed.

Discography

This article has become a ridiculous fanpage with no references. The version I've created keeps things simple, compiled and accurate -- but most improtantly, the data is all backed up with sources. Unless someone can find an OFFICIAL website (not fanpage) to cite their data for the worldwide sales figures of Britney's albums and/or singles, then they will be kept out of the article. Also, the reason for my removal of the singles chartbox is because it was unecessary; there are links to the specific singles' article on the page, where one can find all of the chart information they desire for that specific song by simply clicking on the link. Triggy 22:01, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

I totally disagree, discography contains album chart w/ album pic, singles chart, and etc not just 1 table which is the unnecessary one. U found it unnessary bcoz u just want to delete it, Singles chart box are necessary, it summarizes all the singles so u visitors don't have to go in every page just to know the chart positions. And almost all discographies have singles chart box, so there's no reason to delete it whenever u just want.--Hotwiki 13:02, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
And oh, how good for triggy to deleted the past discussions, that's actualy another bad edit and vandalism.--Hotwiki 13:10, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Dear Triggy! The actual discography is good and detailed. And there's no need to remove informations because these are relevant for a discography. If you find out that some details are wrong (sales, chart positions), you can check out the sources and help us to improve this article. But don't damage the article or delete discussions. --Red-Blue-White 13:56, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

You people are obviously blind followers of Britney. As I stated, without a source, you can not just write worldwide sales and make them whatever you please. Also, a load of information is inaccurate (ie: In the Zone is NOT certified 3x Platinum in the U.S. Get over it). Not only that, but my version is clean and compiled; yours is a complete mess. Bolding things like "#1" is POV, and the remixography and unreleased songs sections are not only partially false, they are also unnecessary. Triggy 20:13, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

If you think that bolding numbers is a POV you can correct it. I don't know if a remixography or a unreleased songs section is necessary - but why not, if the songs are confirmed. A discography lists EVERY release (that's the meaning of the word "discography"). I removed lots of rumors but can't correct all numbers because I am not a Britney expert.
"In the Zone" is certified 2xPlatinum. You can find the certifications at the RIAA site [4]] and can correct them. But it is no reason to delete a complete article if there are unsure numbers. It's a better way to correct these numbers. --Red-Blue-White 23:39, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

This page has become an absolute mess. Sales figures should go on a completly seperate page. Somebody has completely screwed up the list of B-side songs and their sources by inexplicably listing album tracks, and I am currently compiling a list of various Britney songs that are not only TRULY unreleased, but have somehow leaked to bootleg. Some of us ARE interested in compiling a SERIOUS Britney discography, but I don't think it's happened yet.

Certifications "In the Zone"

"In The Zone" should be 3x platinum according to billboad.com someone asked about it and that was the answer because it has sold more in the U.S now the certification has not been changed because Jive has not yet paid for that shipment of albums.

Look at riaa.com [5]: You can search for "In the Zone" - and find double platinum. The Wikipedia can't report "that someone said it would be 3x Platinum". We need sources - RIAA, Billboard or the record company, then we can change it. But rumors are not enough. --Red-Blue-White 10:44, 13 January 2006 (UTC) She's a very sweet person!

baby one more time got a certification of 14XPlatinum in US!!! no usa today source can disagree with that!!! oops i did it again sold 9.8-10 million in us (diamond cert.) the other album sales are correct...

You need references, you simply can't say anything with one. Jeffrey.Kleykamp 14:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
That's only Nielsen SoundScan sales, actually sales are not the same as SHIPPED sales. USA Today says that those are the Nielsen SoundScan sales, which are for REAL and reliable, but they forgot to add the Club sales:
  • Baby One More Time (1999) 10.5 million + 1.6 million (Club sales)
  • Oops! I Did It Again (2000) 9.2 million + 1.2 million (Club sales)
  • Britney (2001) 4.3 million + 588,000 (Club sales)
  • In the Zone (2003) 3 million
  • Greatest Hits: My Prerogative (2004) 1.2 million
  • B in the Mix: The Remixes (2005) 74,000

INFLATED ALBUM SALES

Please, can someone fix this. The whole page is a mess of inflated album sales. I like Britney a lot but she ahsn't sold THAT much! Her discography along with Madonna's and Lil' Kim's are known to be full of inflated sales.

I've been fixing inflated sales EVERYDAY! this page looks like a FAN page, Britney fans are still inflating albums sales. I know that Britney Spears is an amazaing seller but not as much as some fans say. These are the REAL sales:
1."...Baby One More Time"
2."Oops!... I Did It Again"
  • Worldwide: 20 million
  • U.S.: 9.2 million USAToday.com (March, 2006)
  • U.S. certificacion: 10x Platinum RIAA.com
3."Britney"
  • Worldwide: 12 million
  • U.S.: 4.3 million USAToday.com (March, 2006)
  • U.S. certificacion: 4x Platinum RIAA.com
4."In the Zone"
  • Worldwide: 8 million
  • U.S.: 2.95 million Billboard.com (August, 2006)
  • U.S. certificacion: 2x Platinum RIAA.com
5."Greatest Hits: My Prerogative"
  • Worldwide: 7 million
  • U.S.: 1.2 million USAToday.com (March, 2006)
  • U.S. certificacion: Platinum RIAA.com
6."B in the Mix: The Remixes"

  • Spears has sold 28 million albums in America since the bow of her debut set, "...Baby One More Time" in 1999. Billboard.com
  • Sales are not the same that Shipped Sales!!

When Your Eyes Say It

Should that be added to her singles? There is a music video for that song. Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The page says that the video was shot January 2001 [6] --L.a.m.b 14:49, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Unreleased/ unconfirmed songs moved

I removed the unreleased/ unconfirmed songs to a separate site Unreleased Britney Spears songs (Madonna has a similar site Unreleased Madonna songs). --Red-Blue-White 23:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

cool--Hotwiki 14:31, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Where's source's to the promo singles and special releases

Somebody should to do a separate site to Britney with "promo singles and special releases" and p[ut in there the cpovers and tracklistings.

Oh no, the discography is not very big no need to separate--Hotwiki 15:29, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

I would dispute that--I have a promo copy of "(You Drive Me) Crazy" that appears to be authentic Jive product that I bought from an Ebay seller in the far east--it features "Autumn Goodbye" as well as all of the artwork from the standard YDMC single, but I never see it listed in any of the so-called "discographies", even the ones that seem to be fairly comprehensive.

Please can we get a reliable Source

Ive have been reading and people keep changing the sales for the albums. Until there is solid proof, leave the numbers alone.

This page need to be LOCKED

This page needs to have the sales fixed and then locked. It's so annoying when people come in here and inflate her sales to almost 90 million in album sales. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.171.42.13 (talk) 06:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC).

I agree this page should be locked again, too much vandalism. Kraft. 23:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

THERE IS NOT ONE SOURCE

All the numbers claim that they are coming from Billboard but the link provided is to Billboard.com. That is NOT a source. Where does it say it? The whole page is like this. Either add credible sources of citations needed is going up.

Taken care of. Corrected. Herewego123 03:30, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Please find a solution to the mess

With the removal of the pictures from the discography we lost some very valuable information on the number of albums Britney has sold. Those numbers were very well cited, this whole article was loaded with citations. Record sales are a sensitive issue and by removing those citations it has caused some issues. One question I would like answered is, if you wanted to remove the pictures, why did you remove the citations and valuble information with it? The pictures could have simply been removed with no harm done to the table. I ask that someone please hunt for those citations and proper numbers or we should simply revert back to the original version and remove the pictures. 8.04 05:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Already reverted to sourced numbers. Maddyfan 06:04, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Britney Has Sold 86 Million Albums Worldwide!!!!!!!!!why do some of you dought about it????

Britneys Sales are: ...One More Timne: 28 million

...ohps I Did It Again: 24 million

Britney: 15 million

In The Zone: 10 million

Greatest Hits: 8 million

B In The Mix: 1 million [7]

--85.75.109.5 13:59, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree. Britney's album sales are exactly there. Anyone can agree with that by adding all certifications.

--Scary Boo 20:27, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Those sales are totally FAKE... First, she hasn't sold 86 million albums, your source is a mirror of wikipedia, dear. She has sold 75-76 million records, according to these sources:
"...Baby One More Time" has sold 25 million worldwide, that's what her official web site used to claim. Kraft. 22:04, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Why totaly fake??? i believe that they are ABSOLUTELY true!!!

--Scary Boo 09:46, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree with Scary Boo. By adding all certifcations i found:

album

one more time= 27.8 million (28 mil)

ooops i did it again= 24.1 million (24mil)

brtitney=15.2 million (15mil)

in the zone=10.3 million(10 mil)

greatest hits=8.4 million (8.5 mil)

the remixes= 0.86 million(1 mil)

i used 54 countries 4 one more time, 48 countries 4 oops i did it again, 50 countries 4 britney, 46 countries 4 in the zone, 43 countries 4 greatest hits and 21 countries 4 the remixes .

check it out Kraft!!!

Can you guys please add reliable sources with those numbers? Every single album by Britney has sold very well, but those sales are inflated, if you're able to add sources with those number then do it. Time magazine is a RELIABLE source, most of your "sources" are tabloids well-know for providing fake info. Kraft. 20:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

--Sparking sparky 09:59, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I also agree with Scaryboo. i've got another source which claims sales of over 85 million copies. Here it is [8].

Britney's sales are surely there. People were saying that Baby one more time has sold 25 million way back in 2004 now it has surely passed the 28 million mark!!! Why is it so difficult 4 u 2 understand?!?

--CutyViolet 10:31, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

  • i 2 agree with scaryboo!!!! here is another source that claims the same things : [9]

(britney spears is number 18 on the list)

britney's spears album sales r 4 sure over 85 million copies!!!

--Jojo D. 10:35, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Guys, attention everyone! I'm not blind, you're not blind, either. Then you gotta know that those "sources" are mirrors of Wikipedia, if you're gonna add a source, make sure that it is RELIEABLE. Kraft. 20:53, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
  • why have u concluded that they r mirrors of wikipedia!?! they seem quite reliable and verifiable sources to me!!!! and even if they r (which i dought/dont belive) why should that make them unreliable sources!?! i agree that britney has sold 85 million albums worldwide and by adding sales from countries all around the glob u will see that!!!!! we have 8 sources that claim 85 million albums 4 britney and only 1 that claims less!! SO STOP IT!!!

GUYS!!! we have 6 sources that claim 85 million copies and only 2 that say 76 million copies!!!! the difference is big so lets put the 85 million album claim!!!! (i agree with the others that say 85 million copies)!!!! LETS FINISH THIS!!!! I MEAN U PEOPLE HAVE GONE 2 FAR!!! BRITNEYS ALBUM SALES R 85 MILLION AND THATS THE BOTTOMLINE! WE HAVE SOURCES AND ITS LOGIC! WHAT ELSE DO U WANT!?!

--Raloft 20:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

These "sources" are not reliable. Fan sites and celebrity-gossip type sites do not have official sales numbers, nor do they provide information about where they obtained their information. It also doesn't really help your argument if you keep signing into Wikipedia with different account names and using a bunch of IP addresses, as well as signing your name differently on various talk pages. - eo 20:33, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
  • what r u talking about!?! nobody's using more than 1 accounts!!!

  • Who's signing in with more than 1 accounts!!? that whould be a stupid thing 2 do!!! anyway ihave 1 more source that claims 85 million 4 britney: [10]. sorry 1 more [11], and 1 more [12]

--Scary Boo 12:06, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

  • The sources provided to substantiate your claims regarding any figures should be aligned with WP: Links to be avoided. At the moment, most (if not all) of the sites which illustrate the larger number are not credible sites, as defined by the the link above. The articles from Times & Forbes would be excellent examples of quality references. Fan sites are not reliable sources for information. Additionally, this page should be in agreement with the information found at Britney Spears. Finally, I would recommend that these figures be removed from the page until it can be generally agreed upon which sources are accurate. This being further defined by determining why there is a discrepancy between the sources. Tiggerjay 22:45, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Remove Album Sales

I suggest that we remove the Album Sales all together for the moment. That should satisfy both sides of the edit war. Please provide you feedback below. Otherwise I will boldly edit and remove the sales figures in about 3 days. Tiggerjay 18:00, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Personally I don't mind this, but I don't see that it will stop any reverting wars... two minutes after you remove them someone will come along and stick them right back in. - eo 18:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  • i suggest something more effective. Lets count how many sources claim 75-77 million albums for britney and how many claim 85 million. The side with most sources predominates!

--Mysterious Spy 18:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Not a bad idea, however the failing point in this case is that we've already established above that there is an abundance of non-notable "sources" online. With a topic such as this, there is plenty of fan based websites, etc., which have a general tenancy to provide bad information, either due to improper research or a desire to inflate numbers. IF we could establish that all of the "sources" meet the requirement to be included as a notable source, then it would be great. However I don't believe that is possible. At this point, I believe that no information is better than bad, or disputed information. Tiggerjay 03:09, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Agreed, there does need to be a longterm solution to this, however until that point, we need to keep this disputed information removed. AH... How about this... see next article. Tiggerjay 17:05, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Album Sales - discussion

Here are some comments left in the Album Sales section by editors who do not know how to follow directions. :) Tiggerjay 22:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Why not "sales 75-85 Million"? time.com & forbes.com are more serious than the other sites. --Red-Blue-White 13:13, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Just checked the sources and I found this:
  1. Mirror of Wikipedia.
  2. Fake. Considering that Sony BMG confirmed that she sold over 60 million albums.
  3. Mirror of Wikipedia.
  4. Fake. Considering that Sony BMG confirmed that she sold over 60 million albums.
  5. Mirror of Wikipedia.
  6. Fake. Considering that Sony BMG confirmed that she sold over 60 million albums.
  7. Mirror of Wikipedia.
  8. Pointless. they're using Wikipedia as a source.
  9. Useless.
Here it is the info that Sony BMG gave in February, 2005.
Britney has sold 28 million albums in the U.S. and over 60 million worldwide since her debut "Baby One More Time" in 1999.
Time magazine said that she has sold over 76 million records, which includes album and single sales. It's more accurate considering that Sony BMG said that Britney has sold over 60 million albums. Kraft. 01:27, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
  • well u have the accurate sources but i have the most! i have counted 20 sources that claim the same thing until now. if you want i can proove that. but anyway....

but how can this be? i mean usa today says 75 million albums not 75 million records...

  • ...one more time: 25 million
  • oops i did it again: 20 million
  • britney: 12 million
  • in the zone: 8 million
  • gratest hits: 7 million
  • b in the mix: 1 million

and im sorry about the doublicated sources just a mistake! lets just finish with this its getting on my nerves. lol. put whatever sales u want but just dont exaggerate with it ok?

--Mysterious Spy 19:43, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Seriously, what's more reliable than her label (Sony BMG)?. Kraft. 05:30, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

So off!

The discography is so wrong. Britney does not have that many number 1 US Hot 100 singles. Maybe US Pop. Also her Greatest Hits Album peaked ay number 4. And there is no way that her RIAA certifications are right.

Album Sales

Sales?????????

ok we did the discussion part now lets procced to to the sales part! let's put some sales people what are you waiting for?!

--Mysterious Spy 09:45, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

We're waiting for sources, as easy as that, thanks. Kraft. 23:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, I was on a short wikibreak, and on vacation for two weeks IRL. See the below post for the results. Tiggerjay 15:49, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Album Sales Results

First, thank you to everybody who contributed links to be evaluated. After a short wikibreak, and with the input of various administrators, the general consensus is that the ~75 million figure is more reliable for the purposes of Wikipedia due to the references provided. While ~85 million figure might possibly be correct, there is no reliable sources available to satisfy Wikipedia policy, and therefore should not be used in this article. A quick review of the administrator input is as follows:

Source TiggerJay MastCell Sarah Comments
1. 85 Million [26] syndicate of WP
2. 85 Million [27] Unverifiable sources
3. 85 million[28] syndicate of WP
4. 85 million [29] 404 Page not found
5. 85 million [30] syndicate of WP
6. 85 million [31] Blog
7. 85 million [32] Game description only, unsourced
8. 85 million [33] syndicate of WP
9. 85 million [34] No sales figures on this page
10. 76 Million [35] Appears reliable
11. 75 Million [36] Appears reliable
12. 75 Million [37] Appears reliable

Where to go from here: Since a opporuntiy was presented to all interested parties to submit a list of sources, and this list has been evaluated by several administrators, the 75 million figure is the proper number for Wikipeida. Edits to the article which do not agree with this can and will be promptly reverted, and edit wars will not be tolerated regarding this issue.

My two cents: Since this will probably continue to be disputed and will likely increase over time, it may be better to simply avoid sales figures all together. However, if we are going to use sales figures, then we must use the consensus above. Tiggerjay 15:59, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

wow this is completely wrong

now it only adds up to 65 million which doesnt even make sense since in the article on Britney Spears it says according to Zombel she has sold over 83 million...

Britney's U.S Sales As of 2009(an update)

  • Circus (2008)- 1,575,000 copies (certified platinum)

this is an update of Spears album sales only in the "United States" as of 2009! I hope this helps!
