The paragraph cited to Haresnape p. 6 is not fully supported by the source. The only mention is in the caption to a drawing, which reads (in its entirety): Above: The proposed 4,400hp 'Super-Deltic' design, with a BR-inspired front end. This would have been a most impressive machine. However on p. 13 (not cited in the article) there is more: By the autumn of 1966, however, the 'Deltic' protagonists had produced an outline scheme for a 4,400hp version (see Fig 2) which they dubbed the 'Super Deltic'. This would have had a 19ton axleload, and the BRB flat front cab layout. It came to nothing because one of its greatest supporters on BR, Mr. G.F. Fiennes (who would have pressed the case for construction) was peremptorily dismissed from his post at the BRB after publication of his book I Tried to Run a Railway! So the portions content not supported by the source are:

  • Class 51
  • it was meant to be built by English-Electric

As for the content cited to Nock p. 75, this also is not fully supported by the source. The source staes, in part, the English Electric Company also made a bid for entry to the 4,000 horsepower market, and that in 1966 a design was worked out for a 'Super-Deltic', of no less than 4,400 horsepower and also the maximum axle-load was only 19 tons, against 21 tons in Kestrel, and that the total service weight was no more than 114 tons, so the portions content not supported by the source are:

  • potential designs
  • between 4000 hp and 4600 hp
  • weighing between 114 and 119 tons
