I was trying to add a picture of Brett Favre in a Vikings uniform. File:Brett-favre-vikings3.jpg but it didn't work out too well. I think the most recent picture of him as a viking is more appropriate than a Jet —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coinfreak90 (talkcontribs) 07:37, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

The images you were trying to add were copyrighted and have been deleted. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm new to the editing process, so please bear with me. If an image is found on Flickr, is it assumed to be a free image, or do we have to contact the person who posted it at Flickr? Here is the link to a picture I think would work well as the main photo.[1]

Latest Vikings news.

The section about Brett Favre's career with the Vikings thus far is poorly written. It tends to be redundant (re-explaining the off-season "waffling" just after the previous section finishes explaining it, etc.), includes too much trivial information, and the tone is too casual to be taken seriously. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.209.233.63 (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, the article says Novermber 22 instead of November 22, just a small mistake.Kramer14 (talk) 02:43, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Kramer14

Furthermore, in the discussion of the most recent Vikings game, it is stated that the Vikings had no chance of a victory after Favre's interception throw. However, this led to overtime in which the Vikings lost after several minutes to a Saint's field goal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsjwooowooo (talkcontribs) 04:42, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I agree that last line just isn't correct. True the interception ruined their chance to end the game in regulation time, but they still had a chance to win it in overtime. (Raybacca (talk) 04:52, 25 January 2010 (UTC))

Farve Return to Lambeau

I think the the recent game where he returned to Lambeau as a viking deserves it's own sub-section- It is notable for several reasons not mentioned yet. Here is a short list:

1- Most passing yards in one stadium-- passed elway at mile-high. Interesting he had to be a road qb to do it.

2- Favre cam- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/richard_deitsch/11/02/media.circus/ Fox and the NFL dedicated a camera available all game long (even when the tv broadcast was at commercial) , for free, on its website to favre during the game. This was historic as a broadcast development- and you'd think it will be repeated in the future, and eventually possibly complained about by teams if other teams use it to see what opposing qbs are doing/talking about on the sidelines.

3- Finally the section currently states favre was booed. He was, but he was also cheered. It's not a black and white situation- very grey here. This article, for instance: http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d813dbd74&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true has a far better and more balanced dicussion of this angle, noting the "mixed feelings" including signs of support for favre .

21:35, 2 November 2009 (UTC)EKIMBOMB 11/2/9

I don't have a strong opinion on your first two points, but as for your third, Favre was loudly booed upon his introduction and throughout the game. Were the feelings of Pack fans mixed? Yes, they certainly were. But mixed though their feelings were, they booed him like there was no tomorrow. faithless (speak) 02:18, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I have heard this comment repeatedly, it is as false as it is silly. Was he booed? Somewhat, it was a half-hearted attempt at a booing and it certainly did not last the whole game nor was it anywhere near the claimed "they booed him like there was no tomorrow." You and others may want to believe that but like every Green Bay Packer game I was there, 5 rows up on the 45 yard line, and it was nothing like the descriptions I have heard. Expect the same if he returns this year, the packer fans are not like those found anywhere else and claiming they booed Favre like there was no tomorrow isn't going to make it true. AND this B.S. of having him described as a retired American Football player is completely silly. He has not retired, he is officially on the Vikings Roster, and until he announces differently it should be corrected.

We usually don't have separate sections for individual games, a brief mention is warranted since the in the big picture one game (I don't care if it was at Lambeau or not) is not that big in an 18 year career. Just my $.02.--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 03:14, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Favre is mispronounced despite your argument!

I would just like to add that I played with Brett when he was a skinny little Freshman at USM, and I was a Senior Offensive Lineman, Pat Ferrell #74. I knew him in the dormitory as well as when he came in for the first time and led us to victory against Tulane. Brett has always pronounced his name FARVE, even though it is spelled differently. I think this is a really silly arguement since the English language has many different types of pronunciations that do not always make sense. Anyone that wants to tell Brett that he cannot pronounce his name the way he and his family has for generations needs to chill out and snap back to reality. Get a life and stop worrying about silly stuff like this. I hope that settles it. YOU ARE WRONG. PatFerr —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.232.38.176 (talk) 20:39, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Come on, that is seriously your argument, "well thats how Brett pronounces it", do you have any proof of that at all? Just because numerous people clearly can't read the name correctly nor pronounce it correct doesn't mean they are right. A ridiculous argument. There is only the correct way to pronounce his last name, everything else is wrong. How could the sound the v in his name make come after the r? I'm not asking for an argument like you used before, I want an educated answer. Since when does an name written in English and spelled in English, not pronouce the way the rest of the language does? You are clearly wrong and ridiculous for not changing this. Give me an example in the English language or culture with a similiar word pronounce in the manner you insist is correct and I will concede my argument, without that, frankly you are wrong. The v is either silent or pronounced before the r in his name because it comes FIRST! Tell me how I am wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.84.13.145 (talk) 09:24, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Explanation. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:49, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
I know people with the last name "Koch" that pronounce it like "Cook," instead of "Kotch," "Cock," "Coke," or "Coach." The American city Detroit isn't pronounced "de-twah." Los Angeles is "Las An-Jel-Is," not "Lohs Ahn-Hey-Leys." Etc. 128.211.198.168 (talk) 01:04, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
He's simply right because that's how the person in question pronounces their name. Brett Favre's family has always pronounced it Farve, and so does he. It's like telling a Cajun they can't pronounce their last Ree-Shard, if it happens to be Richard, or, Hay-Bear, it happens to be more commonly pronounced Herbert in English. Wikipedia is a source of information, and you are not giving correct information if you tell people a name is pronounced in a way that no one will ever pronounce it because the person in question, who has the ultimate authority on the question, pronounces it differently.--75.65.25.252 (talk) 09:19, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
75.65.25.252, you make it sound like he couldn't ever be mistaken. But there is a mistake there somewhere, those sounds cannot match those letters in English or in French or any language in which you read letters in order. The Latin alphabet is usually read left-to-right but all of a sudden his pronunciation jumps from R to V, right-to-left. In which language do you start reading left-to-right for the first half of the word, then switch to right-to-left for the end of the word?
We should admit that some preferred pronunciations are just nonsense. We can't humor every outrageous claim, we have to draw the line somewhere. Nick (talk) 15:02, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
If you're implying that we shouldn't use the pronunciation used by Favre, because it doesn't make sense (and therefore is nonsense) you're wrong. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 18:56, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
That's exactly what I'm saying. How am I wrong? Nick (talk) 20:25, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

97.84.13.145 is right, it's not about whether you try to do a French accent or not, it's about the order of the letters. Every letter is either silent or it's not. Everyone agrees that the E is silent, so it's either [fɑvr] or [fɑv]. But Favre can't possibly be correctly pronounced as [fɑrv]. Maybe that is how Mr Favre pronounces it, but I think it's very insensitive of Wikipedia to mock his dyslexia in this way. Not cool. Nick (talk) 00:42, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

That's the way every Favre in Kiln, Bay St. Louis and Diamondhead prounounces the name. Look at the pronunciation of Mike Krzyzewski. --PTR (talk) 17:12, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
I can't believe this is still being discussed. Does pronouncing it "Farv" make one bit of sense? No, of course not. But does everyone pronounce it that way when talking about Brett Favre, including Favre himself? Yes, they do. So that's what you put.
Look Laveranues Coles. Sound that spelling out for a second. It's spelled "La-veh-rah-news". But it's pronounced by everyone "La-ver-nee-us". Can you POSSIBLY get that pronunciation from the way it's spelled? No you can't, just like Favre. But that's how everyone does it, so that's what is "right".►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:29, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Good example, but that's just a reason to go change the Laveranues Coles page, it changes nothing about this one. Giving two examples instead of one doesn't mean it isn't nonsense. Nick (talk) 20:49, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Nick, why are you so adamant about the "correct" pronunciation of his name? It should be pronounced the way he pronounces, the way he is known by, etc. Find something better to do then be sarcastic about this. See this explanation as previously mentioned. oncamera(t) 00:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the link, camera, it explains a lot. Now I'm going straight over to Spaghetti to change the correct pronunciation to "pasghetti".
And, naturally, I'm not going to give any thought to the last point on that page, the bit about "If the phenomenon of metathesis is removed from the phonological equation, the name Favre should be pronounced “Fav-Re.”" It's not at all relevant to our conversation. Nick (talk) 04:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Why are you wasting everyone's time with this misguided, hopeless nonsense? You'll never get many people on your side saying the pronunciation listed here should not be how it is commonly pronounced, because it's simply not logical. Give it up.►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:52, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Nick, if you can get Brett Favre to change the pronunciation of his name, then I'll concede, we should probably change the phonetic spelling on the article, too. Until then... Jauerbackdude?/dude. 12:15, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Nick, Favre's pronunciation of his family name is simply non-standard, not wrong or misspelled. You might want to take your faults with this to MoS pronunciation and have experts discuss this with you or read their discussions. oncamera(t) 20:03, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

As per Jauerback,There is only the correct way to pronounce his last name, everything else is wrong. How could the sound the v in his name make come after the r? Since when does an name written in English and spelled in English, not pronouce the way the rest of the language does? You are clearly wrong and ridiculous for not changing this. Non e of the above mentioned examples, in the English language or otherwise, with a similiar word pronounce in the manner you insist is correct. The v is either silent or pronounced before the r in his name because it comes FIRST! My addition: Let me reference the movie "There's Something About Mary," where Brett Favre makes an appearance as himself and Ben Stiller's character refers to him as Brett Favre and not "Brett Farve!" My take on this (as someone with a chronically mispronounced last name), is that people are stupid and started mis-pronouncing his last name and he got tired of correcting people and just let it be what it is. Apparently Ben Stiller wanted to set things straight, but he failed because people are STUPID! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.122.127.172 (talk) 04:19, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

WOW, this is the stupidest thing I have ever read on wikipedia. Favre's name is pronounced the way it is because that is how his family pronounces it and has always pronounced it. My last name doesn't sound like it is spelled either does that mean I should start saying my own name a different way? Also, when did Ben Stiller become the world expert on name pronunciation? --ChesterMarcol (talk) 06:46, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
This issue may be moot, but I still wonder where "the sports world" derived the pronunciation "Far've" from the Viking Brett Favre, whose last name is not spelled F-A-R-V-E but F-A-V-R-E. I have no way of knowing what Brett himself would have said about it, but I have heard that he endorsed the odd pronunciation that is commonly in use among sportscasters. I know that the name is originally French (Cajun, maybe) and ends like "Le Havre", the famous seaport in France, which I would pronounce "Le Hav're" as I pronounce the Louvre in Paris as "Louv're", not "Lour've" !! OK, so maybe I am the holder of a "canard", another word we borrowed from the French (meaning a groundless rumor or belief). Maybe I should do Brett Favre a favor, and leave "Farve" alone, "Favre" notwithstanding. --Skol fir (talk) 16:44, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

It's an example of metathesis. Favre, being a French name, should be pronounced as "Fah-vruh", but somehow the syllables were switched, perhaps to ease the pronunciation for people not used to speaking French; especially in a new world where there is so much intermingling of culture and language. It would only be natural for the true pronunciation to change over time. Take place names, for example: Detroit, Montpelier, Mount Rainier, Baton Rouge... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.216.8.147 (talk) 06:27, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

This is insane, I can't believe people are actually claiming that they have authority on how to pronounce someones name over the actual person. I mean... just WOW. And to whoever brought up Ben Stiller in the movie, that is a terrible point you made, and your idea that people always pronounced it wrong and Brett got tired of correcting - well let me be the first to assure you that wikipedia is in NO WAY obligated to follow suit with your "feelings" "ideas" and your OBVIOUS misconceptions.
Now, I know a person who's last is Piwowar. If Anyone who thinks Favre should be pronounced different than how HE pronounces it (and the rest of the world and his family and friends and sports announcers ect... can guess how that name is pronounced, I will officially concede to you on a Video Ill make. And if you happen to know someone with that last name it obviously wouldn't count - but go ahead, take a guess. Do you know why you will get it wrong? It is because Last Names DO NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW YOUR INTUITIONS about the english language. Many of them are not even english. You might THINK it looks right - that you pronounce from left to right and dont reverse or add letters ect... but what you Think is 100 million % irrelevant. Piwowar is pronounced Pea Voal Var. there is NO WAY you got that right. How about the word Colonel pronounced as Kernel. doesnt make sense, here - letters arent switched, they are totally replaced!!
It is because, contrary to what YOU might think, English is not the only language in the world. And sometimes a string of letters may not have any obvious English interpretation. And besides, in the end it doesnt even matter. My last name could be "Smith" but if my family and I all pronounce it as "Cactus" then that is how it is pronounced. No word MUST follow any set rule or code - especially not in English - and ESPECIALLY especially not surnames. 108.2.103.208 (talk) 17:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

All I want to add to this debate is that currently the second source listed for the pronunciation does not support that pronunciation. It's really annoying and misleading in Wikipedia when sources are used which do not support the claim being made. 94.222.123.180 (talk) 09:06, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree that using a single contradictory opinion from an online discussion forum (however well-founded) does seem a bit out-of-place in this location, so I will remove that reference. There is no point in presenting a counter-argument when Brett Favre himself does not object to the prevailing pronunciation of his name. Skol fir (talk) 20:51, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

It's likely that when when the Favre family immigrated to the U.S., it was spelled Farve, but there may have been a mix-up at Ellis Island. I actually know somebody with a last name that that this happened to their ancestors. Or it could have gone back even further than Ellis Island... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.240.145.152 (talk) 16:01, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

I'll just say that it should be pronounced however he wants it to be and that "Farve" is probably just for the simplicity of saying it. Kind of like how some people pronounce "comfortable" as "comfterble" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adderson (talkcontribs) 13:03, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

This, quite frankly, is the most inane argument I have ever read. Regardless of what some of your "feelings" or "thoughts" may be, the fact is that he and his family pronounce it "Far-v", and that is how it is pronounced when relating to him and his family, and him and his family only. Other people with the same last name may pronounce it "Fav-re", but that is neither interesting nor relevant. Surnames are a personal thing, and if a family has decided to pronounce it a certain way that defies traditional parameters, deal with it. The metathesis argument seems to make perfect sense. Either way, telling someone that Brett Favre's last name is pronounced "Fav-re" is wrong, as it's not. It was not decided by the media to pronounce it this way (if you recall his draft day, the commish at the time pronounced it as Fav-re, and everyone gets a laugh at it now because we know he was wrong) he has said it's Far-v, it's been prounounced Far-v his entire career, and that is how the public know him. When football fans talk about Brett Favre, they don't stumble over his name, saying "Fav-re........I mean, Far-ve", they say Far-v. My 19 year old sister, who doesn't in the slightest care about football, just walked in, looked at the computer screen, and said "Brett Far-v huh?". If she knows how it's pronounced, you should as well.Vyselink (talk) 02:19, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

What a tedious debate. Technically, it is not at all uncommon for the Anglicised pronunciation of this spelling to be pronounced, not so much 'Farv', but rather, 'Fa-v', with an 'a' sound like that in "father". What is then heard as the (untrilled) 'ar' sound from that construction is interpreted by some as the 'r' after the 'v' in the written form, when it's actually part of a long 'a'. In actuality, the 'r' in the French construction "-vre" is often silent in English speakers (e.g., many English speakers pronounce 'the Louvre' as 'the Loov'). Names of foreign origin are often not pronounced the way they might appear to an English reader (and it would be extraordinarily arrogant to expect them to), however there is almost (though see Naming law in Sweden#Protests names) always some kind of logic regarding how the various phonemes are symbolised in the native spelling. The spelling or pronunciation of some names also changes over time for various reasons, such as simplicity (Featherstonhaugh-->Fernshaw) or dissociation with a particular ethnicity (Braun-->Brown). See also List of names in English with counterintuitive pronunciations (Brett Favre was added to the list 1 December 2006).--Jeffro77 (talk) 02:35, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Statistical Updates

Well there are a couple of statistical updates that need to be added. One, as others have mentioned, during his return trip to Lambeau field he surpassed John Elway's record for most yards passed at a single stadium.

Of course his career stats need to be adjusted to reflect the 2010 Giants game, (I would do it but of course the page is locked). Some other notable gaps: he is second all time in 300 yard passing with 61 to Dan Marino's 63. In addition this becomes his 6th 4000 yard season, tying him with Dan Marino for second most all time among Quarterbacks. He has also been to 11 pro-bowls, as of last week, and seven as a first or second team starter, and won 8 the NFC North 8 times.

More new stats: Favre is now the oldest Quarterback to pass for 30 touchdowns and the oldest to pass for 4000 yards, being three years older than the previous record holder, Kurt Warner, who set the record in 2008 at age 37. He has the most seasons with at least 300 completions, 18, and has the second highest completion percentage among quarterbacks who have attempted 6000 or more passes, behind only Peyton. In other notable stats he is the second most sacked QB in NFL history, only ten behind John Elway. And in one of the most impressive stats perhaps, (that is not mentioned in this article), he has, at 43, the second most Fourth Quarter comeback victories of any Quarterback, only four behind John Elway. These are all of the statistics updates I feel are warranted here.

In addition their have been two highly interesting news articles this season with personal interviews with Favre that have a lot of fodder for the personal life section.--Robert Waalk (talk) 04:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Why is this not suitable? There are similar assertions on pages for many other quarterbacks, including Peyton Manning.

WHY does it say he last played in 2009 for the minnesota vikings? he has yet to make a choice on retirment or not. despite media rumors that he told the organization he would he denied them the next day. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.179.25.93 (talk) 07:43, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Why does it say "Last played for the Minnesota Vikings?" He's still playing! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmitriduggan (talkcontribs) 21:10, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

YEAH, he says he can STILL play, and this is 2013! I bet he comes out of retirement at age 50, though, to have it last a bit longer.

The end of the Minnesota Vikings (2009-present section)

Could someone please edit the paragraph at the end of the Minnesota Vikings (2009-present section) to make it sound more professional, as it is written right now it doesn't sound very professional like the rest of the article does.

Career achievements section proposed shortening

Since there is a separate section dealing with Favre's many accomplishments, I suggest shortening the career achievements section considerably to look like this (even cutting as much as I propose, it's still pretty lengthy. However, I don't see a point in a separate detailed section dealing with his accomplishments if it is mostly duplicated here. Any objections to this proposed change?) Stylteralmaldo (talk) 00:45, 29 September 2010 (UTC):

Done Okay, I've gone ahead and merged the detailed info from the main page to the separate section listing the details. Honors and awards

Records and milestones

Favre is the only quarterback to have led a team to victory over all thirty-two teams in the league since the NFL first expanded to 32 franchises in 2002.[5][6]

Favre is one of four quarterbacks to lead the league in touchdown passes four times. The others are Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young.[7] In addition, Favre owns a number of team records, having printed his name into almost every passing category in the annals of Green Bay Packers history.

Consecutive starts streak

Since first being named the starter of the Green Bay Packers before playing the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 27, 1992, Brett Favre has never missed a game.[8] He is currently in first place for the most consecutive starts by a quarterback in the NFL and one of only five quarterbacks to have started over 100 consecutive games in NFL history. He failed to finish a game due to injury on only six occasions since taking control of the Packers as quarterback.[9] Besides Favre, there is only one other active streak of 100 or more games among quarterbacks, that of Peyton Manning. Since the beginning of Favre's consecutive start streak, 212 other quarterbacks have started in the NFL,[10][11] 12 of them being back-ups to Favre at one point.[8] Among his former backups are: Don Majkowski, Ty Detmer, Kurt Warner, Mark Brunell, Steve Bono, Doug Pederson, Matt Hasselbeck, Danny Wuerffel, Aaron Brooks, J.T. O'Sullivan, and current Packers starter Aaron Rodgers. Two veteran backups to Favre never started another NFL game: Jim McMahon, and T.J. Rubley. The consecutive starts streak is widely considered one of the most notable streaks in sports, so much so that the Pro Football Hall of Fame has as an exhibit displaying the jersey Favre wore during his record breaking 117th consecutive start as a quarterback, and a section of their website devoted to what the Hall of Fame calls an "Iron Man".[12]

In 2009, Favre surpassed Jim Marshall for starts at any position with his record-breaking 271st start as a quarterback as the Vikings played the Lions.[13]

Sexual harrassment allegations

We should probably have a discussion about whether or not this merits inclusion. If it doesn't, what would need to happen to make it notable? [2] --Muboshgu (talk) 19:13, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

How about now? Looks like the NFL is investigating.[3] --Muboshgu (talk) 20:55, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

There should be talk of it now because any other famous star or sports player would have had it listed already under "personal Life" even when the allegations are proven to be false. There seems to be more favoritism and a much more positive spin on him here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.77.163.75 (talk) 09:52, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Allegations Involving Jenn Sterger

Excuse me if I'm being "old", but what "lewd voice mails" did he leave Sterger? He sent her "lewd" photos of himself (photos of his genitalia) - is sending someone photos the same as voice mails? Listening to what's on Deadspin, the voice mails consist of him (allegedly) asking her to come to his hotel room - there's nothing lewd about them - he just sounds increasingly desperate. 75.134.18.16 (talk) 23:14, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

error

The article mentions that brett favre broke jim marshalls record for consecutive games played at any position, and references footnote 119. This is incorrect. He broke the record for consecutive games started at any position other than a kicker or punter, which is also stated at the bottom of the referenced article. Jeff Feagles, retired punter, holds the record for consecutive games started. Please correct this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.220.134 (talkcontribs) 22:32, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Technically, kickers and punters do not "start"; instead they "play" in the game. According to NFL.com, David Akers has never started a game in his career. [4] Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:36, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Minnesota Vikings (2009–present) - section clean up

Compared to the other years of his career, the Minnesota Vikings (2009–present) section needs a bit of clean-up. I understand it's something that is still being written, but I suggest dividing it into two sub-sections. One for the NFC Championship season and one for the current season (filled with drama). Also, I think combining and re-writing the sentences so they have a cohesive flow would also read better (as his previous years are written). Anyone else think so? oncamera(t) 01:46, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. The section was essentially written in real time, but now that he's retired, it qualifies as historical data and should be trimmed and cleaned up. I would say that it probably merits two paragraphs at the most, given that it represents two years out of a two decade career.--Carbondate (talk) 13:40, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Done. If anybody feels it could use further touching up, please do. --Carbondate (talk) 14:21, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Consecutive starts streak

Information should be added noting that his recent arm injury is the greatest threat to his starts streak in his Hall of Fame career.

Arthur Moats

I propose adding a line that it was the Buffalo Bills' Arthur "Don't Cross The" Moats that was responsible for delivering the hit that caused the injury that ended Favre's consecutive starts streak. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.143.204.110 (talk) 18:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't think it's relevant to Favre, it's barely relevant to Moats. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:20, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, the "who" will be quickly forgotten (quick, who did Favre replace in Green Bay?), it's just the "what" and "when" that matters. Vyselink (talk) 02:25, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

"Former" player

Until Favre gives an official statement about ending his career, he shouldn't be listed as a "former" football player. Current speculation over whether he'll play anymore this season is not enough to justify his status as a former player. I removed the "former" from the first sentence of the article as for January 2, 2011. Until he comes out and says, "I'm done," it should remain this way. Agreed?DaddyTwoFoot (talk) 01:07, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Makes sense to me. Vyselink (talk) 23:21, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

154 rating comment

"...54.9[36] – the highest of Favre's career and just 3.4 points shy of perfect...."
Perhaps very minor, but I would offer this is poor wording, in that the rating as developed caps at 158, but it certainly does not equate to "perfect", just being the maximum calculable rating. It would be more appropriate to say "...shy of the maximum possible rating." or similar.--Billymac00 (talk) 07:25, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Lock?

Is there any way to get this page locked from editing for a while? I personally am tired of people putting in "retired" when he has not yet OFFICIALLY done so, only to have it reverted. Vyselink (talk) 06:17, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

This article is already on semi-protection. Full protection would prevent all of us from editing, and I think that may be too restrictive. I'd love to see this be added to the articles that have pending changes protection, but that's in beta testing and I don't think they're applying it to new articles yet. If this keeps going, maybe a week locked down completely would be for the best. --Muboshgu (talk) 15:03, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Retirement/Unretirement/etc.

Brett Favre has become synonymous with retiring and then "making a comeback" over the past 5 or 6 years. This is obviously controversial as many news outlets and many more individuals have grown increasingly annoyed by the circus of will he or won't he. The wiki relevant portion comes in that Bret Favre's behavior has become part of the pop culture lexicon. "This guy has retired more times than Brett Favre." It would be helpful to have a section indicating the source of this discussion and the relevant facts. It is a sensitive subject, but clearly, this has been a significant portion of his career for the past 6 or so seasons. It is disingenious to ignore it.

Brett Favre played for the Green Bay Packers for 15 of his 19 years as a professional football player. One of those years was a Superbowl victory. When Brett Favre is thought of it is his time as one of the Packers best QB's in history that is thought of. The current main photo for the page shows Brett Favre playing as a New York Jet. Because his time as a Green Bay Packer is what he is known for, I find that it would be more appropriate to the accuracy of this article that the main photo for the page be of Brett Favre playing in a Packers uniform/helmet. 192.35.211.90 (talk) 17:34, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

It then lists the years he took them to those championships. Two of those years are 1996 and 1997. Clicking on both of those links takes one to the page for the 1996-97 nfl playoffs.

Favre helps Oak Grove to state title as offensive coordinator

On December 6, 2013, in his second year as Oak Grove High School's offensive coordinator, Favre helped the Warriors (14-1) to win the Mississippi Class 6A State Championship, 14-7 over Tupelo. It was the program's first ever football state championship. [5]

The Oak Stove offense averaged 38.5 points per game on the season and was one of the most prolific passing offenses in the state. [6]

"Allegations" of misconduct

I don't see why the headline is title "allegations" when the resulting paragraph clearly spells out that he was guilty of misconduct on both of the incidents mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.64.80.57 (talk) 20:40, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Regarding the Vicadin incident, he was not found guilty of misconduct at all. He voluntarily checked himself into rehab according to one of the sources. One of the sources does indicate that he was banned from using alcohol. That ban was not due to being guilty of misconduct, but as standard procedure for a player in rehab. Regarding the sexting incident, he was not found guilty of sexting (an allegation that was not proven) but was found guilty of not cooperating with the investigation. Therefore, in sexting case, it's a "mixed bag" of allegation and being found guilty. With that said, both cases relate to NFL personal conduct actions and thus I have renamed the section to reflect this. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 17:33, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

70,000 Passing Yards

Peyton Manning threw his 70,000th passing yard Thursday night, making Brett Favre the first guy to do it but no the only one. The article is incorrect. FedEx Air Player of the Week

The sentence "This performance led to him being selected as the FedEx Air Player of the Week." should be stricken. This is a meaningless award, that serves only as an excuse to get the FedEx name on the TV broadcast. I don't see why we should use Wikipedia to give FedEx free advertising. It adds nothing. I've noticed this IP over the past few months. Based on their oddly dedicated editing pattern it shouldn't be difficult to guess what they want to do. I don't really have an opinion on this either way, just impressed with the dedication. IP should consider creating an account. Lizard (talk) 04:41, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Remove Jenn Stergers name from Brett L. Favres bio effective immediately there is not enough scandal or information to use an entire paragraph regarding her involvement with him. 74.255.70.210 (talk) 15:02, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Gunslinger?

I had never heard this nickname, so I asked a life-long Packers fan, who followed Favre for his entire career. He, also, had never heard it. I know, wp:OR, but the ref only gives the article title from the newspaper. It doesn't state that Favre is commonly known as "Gunslinger", or "The Gunslinger".

I'll give it a little time, and try a Google search or 3, but if no one produces a more substantial supportive reference, I'm taking it out, as colorful and apropriate as it is. rags (talk) 04:57, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

O.K , after further OR, I must concede that Brett is often so called, at least by journalists. A biography has that title, encouraging the habit, at least among sportswriters, but that is enough. Another supportive citation, though, is probably in order. rags (talk) 05:33, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
"Gunslinger" is a label that's often applied to quarterbacks who routinely take risks in the passing game with long passes and throwing into coverage. He wasn't the first nor last quarterback to receive the label (Y.A. Tittle and Joe Namath were early gunslingers, and Derek Carr is often called a gunslinger[7]), but Favre is probably seen as the most prominent "gunslinger" in league history. Lizard (talk) 23:38, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
He is not commonly referred to as "The Gunslinger". If it was something he was known as, surely his Hall of Fame page would have it expressed prominently. Check out others who actually had common nicknames:
Joe Montana is listed as "Joe Cool" on his Hall of Fame page (http://www.profootballhof.com/players/joe-montana/)
Joe Nameth is listed as "Broadway Joe" on his hall of Fame page (http://www.profootballhof.com/players/joe-namath/)
Johnny McNally is listed as "Johnny Blood" on his Hall of Fame page (http://www.profootballhof.com/players/john-blood-mcnally/)
Yet Brett Favre has no such nickname presence on his page, because it isn't a nickname he is commonly known for (http://www.profootballhof.com/players/brett-favre/)
I vote "The Gunslinger" gets removed from the lead. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 19:11, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Cajun question

Before looking into it, I was a bit miffed to find that Cajun sportspeople wasn't a category for Favre. Then I reviewed he is a descendant of Simon Favre, who has no involvement in Canada (Acadia) whatsoever, nor does his family. So even though he has a steakhouse with Cajun (but also Creole) cuisine and perhaps a handful of articles (only found one though) such as The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture: Volume 16: Sports and Recreation that may state he is, it's clearly a misunderstanding of his family tree and situation in Louisiana. He would in fact be a Louisiana Creole; a French ancestor who was born in the colony of France. This was a question unanswered in previous archives; answering it now to avoid further possible confusion hereafter: not Cajun. Savvyjack23 (talk) 06:00, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Favre is indeed a descendant of Simon Favre, though a Louisiana-born Creole (of European ancestry) of French, and Swiss ancestry. (See: Folklife in the Florida Parishes "White Creole" / [8] "interpreter for the French Creole citizenry".) Simon Favre was born in colonial French Louisiana, the definition of a Creole, which means "colony-born". Savvyjack23 (talk) 08:01, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Text stating that Brett Favre is tied for the all time record in wins is outdated and should be removed. The record now belongs to Tom Brady.

Streak for Packers is incorrect

The bio says that his starting streak for his time with the Packers was 297. Although he does have the 297 start streak, 252 of those came with the Packers. 16 we from the Jets and 29 with the Vikings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.71.216.66 (talk) 15:22, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

GAR request

An editor has asked that this article be checked to see if its Good Article status needs reassessing. I did a quick run through and found a lot of uncited statements that should really be cited (I tagged a few). Our standards, particularly in BLPs, have increased when it comes to referencing. Also the retirement speculation section is a little undue and there are a lot of very short sections that could be merged. I feel quite a bit of work is needed. I will see if anyone is willing to fix it up before going to a formal assessment. @Wizardman, Skybunny, Aviper2k7, Pookeo9, King Bee, Stylteralmaldo, ZimZalaBim, Kusma, Closedmouth, and Gonzo fan2007: as being involved in the last review or major editors to the article. AIRcorn (talk) 07:43, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

  • NFL records section - I added three references where there was no applicable wiki-page to go to. For the wiki-links, I shored those up so they are pointing properly to the areas of the pages being linked. I removed the 'lack of references tag' hoping that satisfies what you're looking for. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 15:19, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Retirement speculation section - not sure what we want to do there. This aspect of his career was very much a part of his persona. It was very much a topic of regular discussion for a good part of about half his career and was a constant speculation point. I'll defer to others on final judgment on how to handle making sure it is included in the article. Maybe it ought to be shortened somehow. Not sure how one could merge it into another existing section. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 15:19, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
  • What about turning it into prose. It has a bit of a diary feel to it how it is presented. You could sprinkle it throughout the right sections in his careeer (my personal preference), but it might be easier to keep the dedicated section. Starting with a summary sentence (i.e. From 2002 there were many rumors over Favre retiring) and then maybe covering the major ones. The beauty of prose is that you can combine the less notable occasions into single sentences, so keep them proportional to their importance.. AIRcorn (talk) 20:24, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Brett Favre/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

This is not a bad article, but I feel it needs some improvements to keep it GA standard. There are a lot of claims throughout the article of various records Favre has broken. For example Favre became the first and only quarterback to score three touchdowns in the Super Bowl and fail to win MVP honors.. I tagged a few a while ago, but not exhaustively so anyone looking to fix them should use those as examples of what needs citations. The other issue I have is the retirement section. It is generally frowned upon to have bulleted lists when prose would be better. One problem being that bulleted lists tend to give differing incidents equal weight when they do not deserve it. Currently it reads a bit like a diary. I also feel the whole speculation is undue, especially since we have a subheading in career titled Retirements and returns (2008). Personally I would remove the section and sprinkle the notable retirement announcements (I do not think rumours or speculation have any place in a BLP). I would accept a reduced prose version though with the speculation either removed or at least its inclusion justified here. Given there is a sub heading in the career already it would have to be harmonised with that so as not to contain too many duplications, yet still flow and carry the correct weight (hence why I think it would be better sprinkled throughout his career). AIRcorn (talk) 22:24, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

I think it should be added that he is considered one of the greatest qbs in the game, which is a widely held opinion and the fact that it’s listrd for Marino and it should be listed for brees I think we should add it. Fzero235 (talk) 06:49, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
