The bit on quarry swimming is a bit much...[edit]

Inaccurate[edit]

From the article: Later, he greets his son in Italian, only to have Dave reply in French.

Dave's father says, "hiya big shot" at the end of the film when David meets the French girl and he replies, "Bonjour Papa".

Perhaps it would be worth mentioning that Dave lost his fascination with "the Italians" when the Italian pros he was chasing knocked him off the road by jamming his spokes during the race because he was keeping up with them and thus promising to make them look bad. "A disappointing finish" is an understatement. His transfer of allegiance to "the French" at the end is a joke about his renewed enthusiasm after winning. Thanks for putting that all back, it is much better this way. There are other scenes that have stuck with me over the years. I remember Dave's father telling him, "you're not a cutter, I'm a cutter", and the visit to the shop where his dad finishes a cut. There is also the little silent scene where Dave goes down an interstate ramp and drafts a tractor-trailer, with the truck driver watching him in his mirror and signaling the speed with his hand. There are these great underdog details make their victory so sweet, such as the cutter team being given a junk bike when they entered the race that they then rebuild. The movie deserves an article that makes it clear how this movie got to be so memorable. --AJim (talk) 03:05, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

stoners[edit]

I lived in Bloomington (grew up a couple of counties away) from 78 - 81, swam in the quarries, was at the filming of the movie in the old stadium, put on rock shows, etc etc - I never heard locals referred to as stoners. Or even the subset of locals who worked at/were in families of quarrymen. Not that I knew any. Intro paragraph[edit]

Why doesnt the intro say explicitly that this movie deals with cycling? All it says is that "Tesich would go on to script another bicycle film".
