Branko BuljevićBranko Buljevic – Following on from Talk:Matthew Spiranovic#Requested move I've been steadily going through Category:Australian people of Croatian descent and renaming to remove the accents. Haven't run into any objections so far, but I thought I should probably bring this one to RM because, unlike in the majority of cases, Buljevic was actually born in Yugoslavia and played one senior match in the Yugoslav First League before moving to Australia aged about 20. However, I still think the article should be renamed because he spent the vast majority of his career playing in Australia (where obviously he was referred to without the accent) and played for Australian national team 30 times, including at a World Cup, and so should follow what I would consider to be the naming conventions of other notable Australian sportspeople. • Support. Neither of the sources that appear in the reference section uses diacritics. Nationality should not be the determining factor. This subject is notable for tennis, not for being Australian. So tennis reference works should be consulted. I doubt if this person is mentioned by name in any reference work. But Bud Collins, John Parsons, and the other authoritative tennis authors do not use Eastern European diacritics. The Satanic Sheik (talk) 06:32, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:The Satanic Sheik, are you User:Kauffner? I ask because your argument about following books printed using restricted basic 26-character fonts is an argument which Kauffner made repeatedly in dozens of RMs, and it isn't a commonly advanced or accepted argument. Oh and by the way, Buljević is a footballer not a tennis player. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:53, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The same comment I made at Talk:Branko Čulina also applies here. This one existed without diacritics between 2006 and 2008, when it was moved by a Serbian user with no explanation, but still. It's a glaringly foreign name of a person born in a foreign country, retaining the original diacritics changes little and does not appear to matter to any actual English readers. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 14:24, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
