Legitimacy of entry[edit]

Neither the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston or the Metropolitan Museum of Art has any entry for "Boston School" as its own school of painting within the canon of American art history. Although the Met has one painting by Edmund Tarbell ("Across the Room" c. 1899, it does not acribe the label "Boston School" to him, only Impressionism and Japonism. Our entry here also describes the school as current, with living artists, and any offshoot of Impressionism, a movement of the late 19th-century, being current is false from an art historical point of view, however existant it is in Boston-area studios. Also an examination of the profile of the person who put together the entry originally, 2929ed, reveals an editor with EXTREMELY narrow interests (edits on Fresh Paint and color realism). In conclusion, I vouch for removing this entry (Boston School) entirely.--Aichikawa (talk) 19:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't delete![edit]

I'll put this article on my to-do list to research and expand. The Boston School is well known, it's mentioned in many articles, and a quick search on Amazon turns up this book and this book and this book on the subject. The school was also interesting in that it was relatively inclusive of women, or so I understand. [1] --Rosekelleher (talk) 20:35, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I took a stab at it. It's still incomplete. Among other things, the "Reception" section does not include the contemporary painters working in the style of the Boston School, and I'm not sure how to address that. I imagine the wider art world doesn't pay much attention to them, but they're certainly exhibiting and getting commissions. --Rosekelleher (talk) 17:59, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
