Possible Plagiarism[edit]

Cdvl wrote the text in 2008 so it is possible that he wasn't the one plagiarising the sales site, but the sales site was the one plagiarising Wikipedia. Site of Text: http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/fighting_knives/bolohistory.php . If anyone can find out when the material on that site was written, it would be great because it would suck for that material to be removed.GuyHimGuy (talk) 00:46, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the material as likely copy vio. The material could be re-added if paraphrased sufficiently. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:32, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What does this even mean?[edit]

"The bolo knife is common in the countryside due to its use as a farming implement. As such, it was used extensively during Spanish colonial rule as a manual alternative to ploughing with a carabao. "

How does one use a bolo as "an alternative to ploughing with a carabao"? Is there some method of ploughing using a bolo that I am not aware of? Maybe it refers to an entirely different type of farming, that involves the use of a bolo instead of a plough and ox, but that's not what it says. It says the bolo is "a manual alternative to ploughing with a carabao", which in my version of English either means either that a farmer can somehow do his ploughing with a bolo, or that by using a bolo somehow ploughing can be dispensed with. Neither of these seem very likely. What seems more likely is that a person could either work at a regular farm, which involved ploughing, or on a different sort, which involves cutting something with a bolo (although most likely to me would be that the SAME farmer uses a plough while planting a crop and then later uses a bolo to harvest it). Or maybe all the land belonging to Spanish landlords, there were only two primary agricultural jobs available: ploughing/teamsman, or harvester/boloman, both working for wages on larger Spanish farms. In any case, as-worded it doesn't make any actual sense. How can a machete be an alternative to a plough? Both serve very different, and equally crucial purposes. There is at best a great deal of important information missing here that needs to be included for the average person to fully understand it.
