Birth place[edit]

Until some one can work his birth place in to the main article cleanly (as required by the style manual), I'm removing his birth place. He was born in San Diego, California. Trevor1 05:53, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

United States is not a nationality[edit]

  1. United States is not a nationality, American is.
  2. The subject never played for the United States and even if he did (Davis Cup, etc.) nationality is not the correct location for the flag, that's what a specific field medal or competition parameter is for.
  3. Linking to the nation violates WP:OVERLINK.

Overall it's bad form and poor MoS. 208.81.212.222 (talk) 19:46, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Read WP:INFOBOXFLAG again - "However, the infobox may contain the national flag icon of an athlete who competes in competitions where national flags are commonly used as representations of sporting nationality in the particular sport." Golf uses flags to denote nationality/country. And he played on the Ryder Cup several times. The tag "Nationality" would probably be better labelled country but a discussion at Template talk:Infobox golfer did not reach a consensus on changing it. Introductory section has too much fluff and too many NPOV violations[edit]

After the recent death of Billy Casper, his article got "hot" in terms of number of edits. There was a maint. tag which requested expansion of the lead section. The section was expanded to 4 paragraphs but now contains way too much fluff and too many NPOV violations. I think we (meaning editors who have added content recently and those who have added a great deal to this page in the past) need to rework this section. Some editors already have begun winnowing down the fluff, like the one immediately before mine by JackofOz. I thought it would be a good idea to put my thoughts out on the discussion page for other editors to evaluate and opine upon before I begin rewriting the intro section.--Hokeman (talk) 01:50, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
