NPR

No mention of his radio work for NPR? He voiced Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four and Han Solo while Harrison Ford was busy. - Sparky 06:58, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

First wife

I deleted link to Margaret Kelly as it is a disambiguation page, none of whom seem to have been Murray's wife. --kylet 00:53, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Coffee and Cigarettes

I might consider his role in coffee and cigarettes as a cameo.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.120.197.211 (talk) 18:56, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

In responce to the cameo question...

Is that only because you don't know who RZA and GZA are? I think it's quite clear that it's a trio event here. I didn't see a "single lighting" (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameo_lighting) effect on bill murray. I think the lighting was spread out equally betwixt the three. The same may be said about the screen time (if not more for RZA and GZA).

03:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)~MARK03:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)~~

Yes but who are RZA and GZA? Two second rate rappers. Whereas Bill Murray is one of the biggest names in entertainment. It's him who is getting people to watch the stuff. The man is a all-time legend. From SillyWilly. 64.12.116.196 21:06, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
RZA and GZA are two of the most important members of the Wu Tang Clan. They are most definetly not "second rate rappers." Etan 14:06, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes they are. They suck. Oh and I know they are in "Wu Tang Clang". They are dreadful. I'd rather listen to MC Hammer. 64.12.116.196 13:51, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

It should be noted that RZA is a prominent hip hop producer and has composed soundtracks for the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill vol. 1 and Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai. Both he and GZA have made spectacular achievements in the advancement of the Shaolin style and will continue to do so for eons. The Wu Tang Clan will certainly live on for ages and will spit you up and eat you alive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.154.91.225 (talk) 12:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Nike commercials

Anyone remember when Murray starred in a series of ads for Nike saying that he was gonna try to get in the NBA? There was one where he was playing one-on-one with a little kid and he blocked all the kids' shots. The final one was in black-and-white where he tearfully announced that he did not make the cut. Does anoyne feel this warrants a mention? MrBlondNYC 08:28, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

photo

we can get a better picture of that can't we? not only does he look 100 years old, but its a profile shot, and we arn't even sure that it IS bill murray. Some dude took a picture of someone at a basketball game and says its bill murray. --130.216.191.184 02:55, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't like the photo either. I thought that maybe there was a more famous and much older Bill Murray for a second when I first came here. Mithridates 00:51, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
The photo is fine for the purpose that it is serving. It is a free-use photo and is merely being used to identify Bill Murray. It's what the man looks like. Other photos that people like better exist, but they likely aren't free and therefore cannot be used on Wikipedia solely as a means of identifying him. There are other photos on the page of him, but they illustrate the different stages and films of his career, but the only way they can be used is if there's a free-use photo to begin with. Bottom line: If anyone wants to replace the lead-in photo, the image must be a free-use image that's either been released under a free license by a photographer or copyright holder, which could entail someone taking another photo of Bill Murray or writing Bill Murray and asking him to release a publicity photo under GFDL. — WiseKwai 04:38, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Would a caretaker of this article consider mining this source?

I perused this briefly cited article towards the end and noticed it has a lot of interesting facts on Murray's early life that are not in the current article: Times of London story --Bobak 06:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Leeds United Fan?

If a certain rumor is 'quite possibly, baloney', shouldn't we simply not include it? Obonicus 03:56, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Children

Shouldn't we include Jaime Murray as one of Bill's kids? [[1]] Djamorpheus 06:53, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

No. You can find out who is her father in the article you provided the link for. --Krótki 14:09, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

"Murray wed Margaret Kelly in 1980. They had two sons, Homer (born 1982) and Luke (born 1985), before divorcing in 1994. In 1997, he married Jennifer Butler. They have four children together: Cal (born 1993), Jackson (born 1995), Cooper (born 1996), and Lincoln (born 2001)."

OK, so the first three kids from the second marriage were born before he was divorced?

Wild life

I would never include this in the article, but apparently Bill is no stranger to having a few too many drinks and getting vocal [2]

- Maybe that could appended to the Personal Life section? Currently it ends with "In August 2007 Murray was cited for driving a golf cart while under the influence of alcohol in Stockholm, Sweden[4], having a blood alcohol content of 0.036% (legal limit 0.02%).[3]" That is the only sentence on its topic, and to me it almost comes across as a red herring at the end of the section. Not to mention, it is the most boring fact about anyone's life that you could print... Robbiemuffin 14:43, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

There has been recent vandalism, so the article is now under protection. You can remove the protection whenever you feel the time is right. --James599 14:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

  • The vandalism was due to a report on 4chan that Murray died. The thread disappeared, and the whole "short attention span" kicked in, so the protection isn't really needed anymore.--24.136.103.138 15:30, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Eh. It's set to expire tomorrow anyways. Not sure I see the point in taking further action to pull down the protection. - Fordan (talk) 15:36, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree with Fordan. Wikipedia doesn't tolerate vandalism. If these unregistered users continue vandalizing articles, they will be banned. --James599 15:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Remove "influenced" Listing on sidebar

Please remove the "influenced Jason Lee, Wes Anderson, Vince Vaughn" thing in the sidebar. It is uncited and totally ridiculous. Aside from the fact that without documentation there's no merit in listing it to begin with, the three unfortunate names are a complete insult to Murray's contribution to media, and the American sense of humor. Of all the MILLIONS of people who proudly call Murray an "influence" (both famous and otherwise) Vince Vaughan, Wes Anderson, and (are you serious) Jason Lee are most certainly the lamest in the pack. If there is any influence from Murray on these men, it's definitely not evident in their work. I might as well say that my mom was influenced by Murray and post it here. please remove it, explain why it belongs there or I'm killing it. --Avery Dickfish

First of all calm down, second of your reasoning for it to be removed is based on P.O.V and just because a few people don't like the actors that someone influenced doesn't mean it should be deleted. The reason why it's there is that a lot of wikipedia pages on actors and actresses have who they influenced, unless of course Bogart's and Sellers' because the list of actors and actresses influenced by them is just far too long. Now you state that there are millions of actors influenced by Murray, well those three are the ones who constantly state Muray influenced them. --AKR619 (talk) 05:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Possible article ideas

I recently watched Ralph Nader's "An Unreasonable Man" and Bill Murray is shown speaking at a Madison Square Garden event in New York supporting the Nader presidential campaign in 2000. Maybe that could be added to his films? Or maybe it could be mentioned or spawn a new section. Also, I know Bill hosted the 2007 Eric Clapton Guitar Heroes concert event. Corrected the story of Murray washing the dishes in a 'bizarre' fashion as I live in Scotland and read the papers regarding Murray's trip in St Andrews, and he most certainly did not randomly walk into a house and wash the dishes! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iowasf (talkcontribs) 17:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

The divorce and spousal abuse charges section seems VERY sparse. I suspect a fan is trying to underplay the allegations and it comes off looking kind of strange. That section needs to be expanded. 74.216.69.132 (talk) 01:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

When did he move to New York?

In the article it says "In 1975, he moved to New York City and was recruited by John Belushi as a featured player on The National Lampoon Radio Hour, which aired on some 600 stations from 1973 to 1974." Toronto Film Festival photo

Why. Huh? Why.

There are no other photos available except this old one from the 2009 Toronto Film Festival?

Why this insidious secret conspiracy to ingrain Toronto into the mind of the world to think that “Canada” is synonymous with “Toronto”.

What are we, some banana republic?

One giant megalopolis surrounded by a million square miles of jungle? Like Peru or Bolivia or Ecuador?

I know that it is part of this secret conspiracy by that Canadian woman who is on the Wikipedia Board of Directors, and pretends to promote ‘canada’, but she is really just promoting Southern Ontario and Southern Quebec.

It’s bad enough that the Blackberry, supposedly ‘canadian’ is really made just outside Toronto. And that all our car factories are within 4 hours of Toronto. And that all 5 of our biggest banks are in Toronto. And that half our universities are within a few hours drive of Toronto. And that our stock market is in Toronto. And that most of our aerospace industry is in Toronto. And that almost every ‘thinking’ job in Canada is in or near Toronto ... even though the country is 9 million square kilometres.

So now Toronto is secretly stealing away the title of “Hollywood North” from Vancouver, thanks to this Wiki BoD woman from ‘canada’ who is really promoting Southern Ontario?

Place of birth

In the info box Murray is said to be have been born in Evanston, Illinois. But in the a Early Life section it states he was born and raised in Wilmette, Illinois. While both places seem to be very close to each other he can't have been born in both - it's either one or the other. Aerach (talk) 20:36, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

No One will Ever Believe you meme

Is it worthwhile to mention the meme about him, where he will do random things to people in public and then tell them that "no one will ever believe you" and then walk away? Anecdotally, he actually did the first few of the strange things before it became more of a fun story-telling meme. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.129.86.8 (talk) 22:01, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Hasn't he been showing up at random college parties? I remember hearing that on the news and they actually had a picture.--72.24.207.77 (talk) 07:32, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
It seems notable/relevant enough to me, but I would agree that it does not seem fitting in the articles as it is now. this bit of information doesn't quite fit well in any of the sections, and isn't important enough to warrant a section of its own.82.176.179.57 (talk) 12:53, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
A section like "Interaction with fans" or something similar would seem appropriate for this (with of course more information than just the meme) MrEvers (talk) 17:38, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

I like the idea of an "Interaction With Fans" section. It's always a bonus if an article gives some idea of the subject's actual character and temperament, backed up by examples. In the case of Murray, who is known for his eccentricities, it's a necessity. Younggoldchip (talk) 15:41, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Bill Murray Birthplace

I am trying to edit Bill Murray page to born in Wilmette, Illinois. He was raised there and by all accounts should be listed as born there. He many or may have not been born in Evanston Hospital, but the source is from a page that has very little credibility. My sources are the follow:

http://www.biography.com/people/bill-murray-9542510

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000195/

Not the best citations, but better than what is currently listed. Let me know what else I can do to fix this inaccuracy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamoneill96 (talkcontribs) 15:38, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

@Jamoneill96: Your citations, as you said, aren't great; in fact, they're not going to work at all. Biography.com probably got their information from an old, unreliable database that we really try to avoid using on here and IMDb has little-to-no editorial oversight. The source that's used there is cookcountyclerk.com, which you seem to believe is "a page that has very little credibility." Why isn't it credible? Either it's one of the longest-running hoaxes on the internet or it's the real deal. If it's actually the website of that county clerk, it's probably not going to contain information that could get them sued by a millionaire movie star. RunnyAmigatalk 18:50, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Bill Murray's first Appearance on SNL

This page makes the claim (referring to Murray) "He officially joined the cast of NBC's Saturday Night Live for the show's second season, following the departure of Chevy Chase, but had been on the premiere episode of the show." and cites a 2014 New Yorker article which doesn't support that statement. Murray's IMDB page only has SNL credits from 1977 on. I think perhaps someone got SNL mixed up with "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell", a different show on ABC, that does list Murray on its pilot episode. I think this claim should be removed. Thoughts? I'm removing it until someone provides a source.Jaydub99 (talk) 14:44, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Using "filmreference.com" as a reliable source

Pinging involved users: @Rockchalk717, Favonian, Plandu, and KH-1: Should we really be using filmreference.com as a reliable source?
