Montgomery was Kirk's friend and mentor, not a co-founder of the organization.
April 7, 2018 issue of Politico.eu - no mention of Montgomery: At the center of the puzzle of Turning Point USA stands one person: 24-year-old Charlie Kirk, the founder, public face and chief fundraiser for Turning Point USA. He started the group just one day after he graduated from Wheeling High School in suburban Chicago, saying back then that Turning Point USA’s mission was to cheerlead for the free market.[2]
The Atlantic dated March 25, 2015 speaks about Charlie Kirk ...and the organization Montgomery pushed him to found... Montgomery encouraged Kirk, to delay college, and start a group. "I don't know you," he recalled saying, "but you need to start an organization to reach out to young people with your message." Montgomery helped Kirk with the "launch" of the organization that Kirk founded.[3]
Kirk never referred to Montgomery as a co-founder of Turning Point USA but some in the media have misrepresented the facts - spun it, if you will - and that spin was repeated throughout the echo chamber. Our job is to get the article right, and not publish false/misleading information. There is a big difference legally between a friend/mentor and a co-founder of an organization.

See the July 29, 2020 Politico article which states: In a statement memorializing Montgomery, Turning Point USA praised his role in elevating Kirk and the organization, calling him the group’s “first believer and senior advisor,” although Montgomery often described himself as a co-founder.[4] Multiple other sources show Charlie Kirk as founder - there are no co-founders listed.
