Macrophages do not break down senescent erythrocytes[edit]

But senecent erytrocytes are broken down spontaneously in the spleen (mostly) and in the liver (10 %). Macrophages phagocytose their fragments.

Answer: After checking the Merck Index, I have now corrected the biliverdin structure. There was a double C=C bond missing between the second and third pyrrole rings.Dirac66 19:46, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
