"Notable Works"[edit]
This bibliography page is supposed to present "notable works" on Ottoman history. What qualifies as a "notable work"? What types of books should be included and what types should not? According to WikiProject Bibliographies, the goal of bibliographic pages should be to "[include] only relevant items rather than all items present in a particular library. Bibliographies are a primary tool in academic research for students, faculty and researchers. Within Wikipedia, well crafted bibliographies provide editors with a readily available list of sources that can be used to support creation and expansion of articles on related topics."
This would seem to indicate that the Bibliography of the Ottoman Empire should be limited to works which can be "used to support creation and expansion of articles on related topics." In other words, it should include books which are modern and up to date, as well as older works which are noteworthy and seminal. It should not include books which are outdated, non-scholarly, or otherwise unsuitable to be used as sources on Wikipedia or elsewhere. Does this interpretation seem reasonable? I would like to edit this bibliography page accordingly, removing inappropriate sources and replacing them with scholarly, up-to-date alternatives. Chamboz (talk) 19:05, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
