not until August 1972 he turned 14 so he recorded and released at 13 years old

"Ben" in "The Simpsons"[edit]

Michael Jackson did not sing in the 1993 episode of The Simpsons entitled "Stark Raving Dad." He played the speaking role of Michael/Leon, but could not sing due to some sort of prior contractual obligations. He was, in fact, credited for his speaking role under a pseudonym, but an impersonator was hired to perform the small singing parts. Jackson is credited as John something or other. I believe I've also seen the actual singer credited on a website somewhere before. (any MJ fan can tell the difference) -- Crnk Mnky 18:19, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Apparently, this fact has been (in some form) inserted into the Wiki more than once before (most recently by myself), only to be removed shortly thereafter. I will gladly look up the actual names from the credits when I can confirm that these efforts will not be ignored or deleted. --Crnk Mnky
    • P.S. Any Michael Jackson fan can differentiate between the 2 singing styles! --Crnk Mnky

Thanks Aphasia for adding that info. I understand now. I've realized that an anonymous contributor adding the word "impersonator" to a Michael Jackson article is the kind of thing that happens far too often around here, and often it is done malevolently. -- Crnk Mnky 02:14, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

ben[edit]

""Ben" was a number-one hit single by Michael Jackson for the Motown label in 1972, recorded when he was around the same age as his future victims would be"? mehbe not. -:)Ozzyslovechild 11:23, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Funny, in a strange and ironic sense. (202.172.117.45 10:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ben (Michael Jackson).jpg[edit]

Image:Ben (Michael Jackson).jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Who was "Ben"?[edit]

If Michael Jackson himself did not have a pet rat, then the article should mention that "Ben is a reference to the rat in that movie", not just that it was the theme song of that movie. If he actually had a pet rat, that should be in the article. In fact, if he had no pet rat, the article should - just to be clear about it - mention that Michael himself didn't really have a pet rat named Ben. --82.171.70.54 (talk) 09:53, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One of the versions of cover art om the single featured a baby reindeer, similar to Bambi , but whether the name Ben refers to the reindeer is debatable. If not , why

Question[edit]

This article doesn't say why the song was written. Can someone please add this bit of info in? Thanks, Amelia —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oceanassassin (talkcontribs) 23:41, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't much about the why's of the song[edit]

I was hoping to find out what inspired the song, what it was about. Maybe that would be interesting to add? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Insomesia (talkcontribs) 01:56, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ben reference in black comedy show[edit]

I can't remember the name of the show (I remember it having an African American cast similar to Martin), but there was an episode where the cast want to use a rat named Rufus as the mascot for their store. One of the guys mentions he used to sing "Ben" to the rat when he was a kid but replaced "Ben" with "Rufus". Then the guy's father says, "I HAD to kill him! He had rabies, for crying out loud!" If anyone can name the show, I'll be grateful.--RootOfAllLight (talk) 07:24, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
