That Times article accuses Lord Melbourne of appointing Whig-sympathetic ladies of the bedchamber. Is there evidence for this? It's quite obviously a biased article but I think it's relevant. Extua (talk) 17:44, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Was it not convention that the ladies of the bedchamber were holding posts normally given to wives or daughters of peers or MPs of the incumbent government party; therefore a change of government entailed their dismissal? Being taught about the Bedchamber Crisis as an A-level political history student, I recall being told that such appointments were generally sinecures, although some of the occupants had an active input into the daily life of the then unmarried queen. There were many senior male posts whose incumbents changed with a change of government.Cloptonson (talk) 08:51, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
