Hanging Rock (North Carolina)Bear's Paw – The official name for this mountain is "Hanging Rock"; however, in North Carolina "Hanging Rock" is a common name for Hanging Rock State Park. This mountain is obscure, while the state park is much more well known. In addition, the state recently (2008) established a state natural area on the mountain, calling it Bear Paw. The SNA's name is based on the mountain's Cherokee name, Yonah‑wayah, which means Bear's Paw. Given that Bear's Paw is English version of the Cherokee name, and that the mountain is becoming more commonly known as Bear's Paw, due to the SNA, I would like discuss if it makes sense to change this article's name to Bear's Paw. –Sparkgap (talk) 05:19, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was unaware of the name change to the mountain, it is still listed on a lot of maps as Hanging Rock. I was also unaware (or oblivous) that its summit area is now protected... though the mountain at one time was planned to be another ski resort but failed because of no backers (and creating the slops on the south side), thus now a golf course nearby. I'm fine with the name change. --WashuOtaku (talk) 22:21, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
