Integrate couple long paragraphs into one and removal of not important section[edit]

There are a couple long paragraphs in the "reception" section there basically talking about the exact same things which is his appearance in different media outlets. Therefore, I decided to integrate these paragraphs into one. I also cleaned up some of the references since the previous editors used too many unrelated sources just to show his appearance, which is very redundant and more like just name drops.

/* Ariana Miyamoto and Osaka Naomi */ I removed this part eventually as the whole section mostly just about some articles NcNeil once wrote on his monthly column. Most of them are just his personal thoughts and ideas. This should not be important enough to mention in this page because (1) is his subjective opinions.(2) Op-ed represent the writer own view is not notable enough to have its own section and it would against the neutrality policy, (3) trivia section ,(4) he was not directly involved to the incident except for giving out some of his personal opinions on twitter after this incident. This is something everyone can do. (5) Opinions pieces and columns articles should not be included in the biography unless it proven to be worthwhile to metion. Otherwise we would have to write numerous sections for many of his articles and op-ed, which dont make sense since we dont do this on other columnist/reporters pages and it would became autobiography for self-promotion. Most of the famous columnists in the world dont have their articles elaborated in detail in their wiki pages unless it have notable effect to the whole society. Only incidents that truely matter should be written on the page.

Untitled[edit]

I don't understand what the issue is with the sources noted: The New York Times, BBC, New York Daily News, The Japan Times, vox.com, etc. Ray Jameson (talk) 17:58, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You need to detail how the major newspapers discuss McNeil's work, not that he just has name drops in the papers. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 03:37, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Explain my changes (Version 13:40, 29 November 2021‎)[edit]

After some time editing this page, I realise that a lot of sections are often too subjective and full with unrelated/unimportant informations which makethe acticle too lengthy for an relatively unnotable figure. Therefore, I decide to re-arrange and re-typeset this page.

I basically combined all into 4 sections: Early life, Career, Controversy and Reception. I try my best to only write down the most relevant information and tidy up the page. I divided the section "Early life and career" into two parts which is "Early life" and "Career". In the section of "Early life", It's roughly the same as the previous version but cut out those subjective and unrelated descriptions, like those sentences about his personal feelings or his feelings towards another woman etc. It is more like a book introduction than an actual description of the subject Early life. So I cut out those and only keep the relevant ones.

The second section is the "Career", which as the name suggested is about his career. I wrote about his being a Blogger and a columnist in the Japan Time. I also move some paragraphs about his appearances in various media outlets from the "Reception" to this section, as this is most fitting. I should also mention that I decide not to include "Ariana Miyamoto and Osaka Naomi" here. I already wrote the reasons on the Talk but I would briefly metion it again here. Basically the reason is that they are not related and notable to have its own section. The whole section mostly just about some articles and op-ed NcNeil once wrote on his monthly column. He was not the main figure in those incident nor have sufficient role in it other than being an outsider expressing his subjective feeling in his article. So it do not qualified enough to have its own section. This page is not for people to promote their believes. So not included. I do keep the "Blackface Controversy" section though and put it in to the newly create "career" section. This is because in the "Blackface Controversy", NcNeil do played a more important role and have a direct effect on this matter other than just reporting the incident. I also added in some counter opinions from the locals.

The third part is the "Controversy ". Basically is the same as the previous section. But I adjust the tone to be more neutral. The final part "Reception" is largely the same except moved some paragraphs into the "Career" section as they are better fit in there.
