???[edit]

I hate to state the obvious, but this article doesn't exactly shed much light on the incident in question. Shame, it sounds like the topic could make for an interesting read. Inchiquin (talk) 11:48, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting sources[edit]

I've expanded this article from sources on the web, but I've had to estimate which is the most reliable in cases where the sources disagree. I'm not sure if the conflict comes from genuine historical controversy or simple misinformation. Some examples are:

1. Apprentices. Some sources say that apprentices were involved in the 1668 riot. Others say that they were only involved in the earlier Shrove Tuesday riots. Which is correct?
2. Timing. Some sources say that the 1668 riot happened during Easter Week and others say Shrove Tuesday. Could people be confusing this riot with the earlier Shrove Tuesday ones?
3. Cause. One source claims that the cause of the riot was the suppression of the earlier Shrove Tuesday riots, but I have followed the popular view that religious and political dissent was the cause. Am I correct?
4. Outcome. There are wildly varying reports concerning the number of people executed. I have used the most detailed source, which may not be the most accurate. Does anyone know?

Any more help that anyone can provide with this article (particularly if they are knowledgable on the subject of Stuart history) would be appreciated. Also, it might be useful if the article could be assessed for the Wikiprojects listed above (it looks Start Class to me). Polly Tunnel (talk) 11:53, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
