The County of Avon Fire Brigade[edit]

When the Service was created in 1974, it was named "The County of Avon Fire Brigade". All fire appliances had "County of Avon" on the sides. The name was changed in 1996 to "Avon Fire Brigade" to show that the County no longer existed. In 2004, the third name change occurred to reflect the nature of current jobs: "Avon Fire and Rescue Service". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.142.105.244 (talk) 15:40, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cite a reference to show this please. Their website indicates that it was Avon Fire Brigade. Samiddon (talk) 18:00, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Samiddon, "http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/product.php?productid=39176&cat=1269&page=1", if you read the description it states: "this account covers the period until the Brigade was absorbed into the County of Avon Fire Brigade in 1974". "https://www.btowstore.com/epages/Store2_Shop1533.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Store2.Shop1533/Products/153", again, if you read the description it states: "ight up to 1974 when Bristol's service became part of the Country of Avon Fire Brigade".
Ok...but then why does Avon Fire's own website indicate otherwise?? Please sign your comments. Samiddon (talk) 22:15, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have now cited two sources in the form of two books. Avonfire (talk) 22:29, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree that some books refer to it as County of Avon Fire Brigade - but surely their own website is the more credible? Samiddon (talk) 23:02, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst I would like to agree with you about the Avon website, I can assure you (although I can't find internet references) that the name was "The County of Avon Fire Brigade" as of 1st April 1974 up until the 31st March 1996. Avonfire (talk) 23:09, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The picture on the following link proves that it was in fact called County of Avon Fire Brigade. http://fireenginepics.fotopic.net/p48613856.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jelhead1 (talkcontribs) 20:09, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fleet List[edit]

Mmm...not sure if this is encyclopedic and its worthiness on the page... ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Samiddon (talkcontribs) 23:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It tells people about the equipment owned by Avon. I update the fleet list on here as i update my own. When the recive new equipment.

Also a Rapid Responce Unit (RRU) is Avons name for a Midi Fire Appliance (MFA)

E.g. the Major Welfare Unit now at Avonmouth has been seen attending an incident and at Avonmouth fire station. The Rail Rescue Unit has undergone conversion and is currently off the run. The Rail Rescue Support Unit is off the run and was replaced at Avonmouth by the Major Welfare Unit. It is not possible to cite references to this, but I am sure that this information is correct.

There have some changes on the Wiki page to the appliances at each station. These changes are contrary to the info that is shown on Avon Fire Service's webpage...for example the Rail Rescue Unit has been removed; despite http://www.avonfire.gov.uk/Avon/Your+local+station/05+Avonmouth.htm showing it is still at Avonmouth?? Samiddon (talk) 18:09, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the removed units, this is due to personal knowledge of the Avon Fire fleet.
Then you should source locations where the information has come from. Word of mouth references can't be held as being encyclopedic. If it can't be sourced, then it can't be included. Things like fleet information must be sourceable - and should reflect accurately on the website.Samiddon (talk) 11:24, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Avons website states that WX03 ZPV (Turntable Ladder) is currently based at Bedminster Fire Station. But on the Bedminster Fire Station page, there isn't any mention of a Turntable Ladder based there. In fact, WX03 ZPV is based at Bath Fire Station (and has been for some time). The website also states that Y561 XAE is currently at Bath; this is wrong as the ladders were cracked and the Turntable Ladder had to be taken off the run. The vehicle is now sat in Workshops. If you read the top of this page: http://www.avonfire.gov.uk/Avon/About+us/Vehicle+list.htm it says this: "This list is updated regularly". They obviously aren't keeping to their word. I note that a banner saying "This section does not cite any sources. Please help improve this section by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (February 2016)" has been added by User:Thryduulf, to the sub section Fire Appliance Glossary/Callsigns. Looking at the discussion in this section it appears this has been uncited for years and I also wonder about its encyclopadeic value. Unless anyone objects &/or finds appropriate references. I suggest removing the whole uncited section.— Rod talk 21:11, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've got no objections to removal. Even if sources can be found, it's only borderline encyclopaedic at best I think. Thryduulf (talk) 21:29, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK I have now removed the section.— Rod talk 21:44, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An unsourced fleet list is back in the article now, unless there are any objections I'll remove it again per this discussion in a few days. Thryduulf (talk) 14:47, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As there had been no response to this, and the list was still uncited, I have (again) removed it from the article.— Rod talk 19:38, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My removal has been reverted by User:86.188.237.177. I am hoping they will come here to discuss.— Rod talk 11:09, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The editor who reinserted the uncited list in the section "Fire Stations/Appliances" has not appeared to discuss this - do others think it should still be included (hopefully with citations) or can this be removed again?— Rod talk 20:28, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed it again I hope @BlueLightTim: will come here to discuss.— Rod talk 16:02, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
