Requested move 8 September 2017[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result was: moved as proposed to Avīci (01). There was clear consensus for a move away from the all caps title. The separate issue that came up of whether the macron "ī" should be included has not reached a clear consensus, but several editors have correctly pointed out that the word, Avīci, does contain a macron. The preference for internal consistency for Wikipedia article titles thus supports retaining that diacritic. bd2412 T 12:06, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AVĪCI (01)Avīci (01) – The title isn't an abbreviation, just a stylization of Avicii's name. JE98 (talk) 15:11, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). — Zawl 15:17, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The usage of " Ī " can also be considered stylization. Since sources spell it out as AVĪCI (01), I don't see why partial stylization should be removed. If we're going to change the title, then I suggest changing it completely to Avici 01, for complete removal of stylization. — Zawl 15:22, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – I use Napster and it has it as "Avīci". JE98 (talk) 15:27, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, as proposed, per MOS:CAPS, WP:NCCAPS, MOS:TM. Not opposed to "Avici" spelling, either, if it can be shown that most reliable sources, that are actually independent of the subject (i.e., not music magazines/sites that slavishly mimic cover logos to keep their music-industry advertisers happy) also drop the diacritic. However, we usually retain diacritics and ligatures in titles of works if the creator/publisher uses them consistently (e.g. Ænima and "Ænema" by Tool), and they're not just found randomly in some marketing materials (as was the case for, e.g., "Se7en" styling for Seven (film), and conflicting "Alien3" and "Ali3n" styling for Alien 3).  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  12:37, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, and I also support removing the macron entirely. This title is an overstylized mess... —Electricnet (talk) 21:20, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – "ī" is not the way of stylization, it's part of the title. JE98 (talk) 16:34, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Upper casing is a form of stylization. However, I'd like to point out that "Avīci" isn't a stylization of Avicii's name, although it may seem like one. It's an actual word, the "ī" is part of the word. I'm not entirely sure whether the brackets should be removed as well. Hayman30 (talk) 03:20, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – @Hayman30 They shouldn't, "(01)" is part of the name. And just in case anyone wants to see proof that Avīci is actually a word, see the article. JE98 (talk) 11:26, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per SMcCandlish. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:15, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Avici 01 per above. Although many sources include the styling, some don't, so best to just go with the plain English title, no caps or macrons.  — Amakuru (talk) 21:46, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Avīci 01 because the "ī" isn't stylization. feminist 13:40, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is stylization, just as the caps is. You either need to include both or neither.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:00, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just because the album has an "ī" does not mean it is stylization. Avīci "is the lowest Level of the Naraka or 'hell' realm". There's no stylization, that's the name, no question, so it should be "Avīci (01)". JE98 (talk) 01:03, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Avīci 01 or Avīci (EP) even better. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:15, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @In ictu oculi: I think “(01)” is better for now, it’s in the name and it’s supposedly part of a series of EPs. JE98 (talk) 01:17, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't seem to consistently be in the name and is listed at just EP on Qobuz and other sources. If other EPs come then it would becomed (2017 EP). In ictu oculi (talk) 07:08, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's in most of the sources so I personally wouldn't ditch it merely because one or two digital retailers didn't include it. "01" isn't part of the disambiguator anyway, it's in the actual title. It's more debatable whether the macrons should be removed. Hayman30 (talk) 08:21, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – This request has gone on for two weeks now, and I think the best decision, as I originally requested is to move the EP to Avīci (01). "Avīci" is the official name of the EP, not stylized, and apparently it is in a series of EPs, so "(01)" should be kept. Should someone want to change the name, they can set up another request. JE98 (talk) 12:39, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think a majority of editors support the removal of macrons as well. Unarguably, the "ī" is not stabilization. Just because it looks like an alternative spelling and a stylized version of Avicii doesn't mean it is. Hayman30 (talk) 12:47, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think the majority of the debate was changing "I" to "ī" rather than removing the macrons, so I think we should keep them for now, but again, if there is an argument to remove them, I am willing to hear. JE98 (talk) 23:25, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
