Names of Heads of School[edit]

Is it necessary to have the names of the Heads of School for each specific theological area of the college? As a matter of privacy? Although they are able to view them on the ALC website anyway. Just a thought.

Could a history of the college also be put on there?

Dalekerrigan 12:52, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a history of the campus to the site last week; didn't think to mention it here until now though sorry. I got the info from a pamphlet produced by the College and given to its students, such as me. Sem boy (talk) 13:30, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

InfoBox[edit]

Is anyone able to fix the info box on this site, as it says "colours" where the colours are meant to be. Perhaps this line could be removed because the School has no official Colours for sporting teams etc.Sem boy (talk) 07:48, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Misinformation[edit]

"Although still primarily a theological college, it is also open to students studying at Adelaide University, the University of South Australia, Flinders University, or TAFE, a paradigm reflected in the name change of 2004." This quote is misleading, as ALC is a registered Higher Education Provider in its own right, and one doesn't have to be a student anywhere else at all to study at the college. Could this please be rectified. Thanks Sem boy (talk) 12:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's what it's saying, although perhaps it could be worded better.--Yeti Hunter (talk) 14:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes[edit]

Information to be corrected in the article:

Extended content
   - Change 'and a registered teaching institution of University of Divinity' to 'and a college of University of Divinity'
   - Change the sentence beginning 'The campus includes a number of ..' to 'The campus includes family and shared accommodation blocks, and a theological library, as well as educational facilities.'
   - Delete the paragraph beginning with 'Although still primarily a theological college,...'
   - Move section 'Campus life > Boarding' to bottom of the History section and update beginning to 'For over 50 years ALC provided ...'; delete the second paragraph.
   - Update section 'Campus life > ALC Residents Association': remove second half of opening sentence '- to make it clearer ...'; update second paragraph to "ALCRA are responsible for forming a community atmosphere on campus. They organise events during the year, internal sporting competitions and community barbecues."
   - Move section 'Campus life > Horrie Packer Memorial Mixed Netball Match' to bottom of the History section; update opening paragraph to "One of the notable on-campus events each year, originally a mixed-doubles tennis match between the Lutheran Teachers College students and the ALC pastoral ministry students, was the Horrie Packer mixed netball match between the ALC students and tertiary boarders."
Explanation of issues: ALC has recently closed its tertiary boarding facility including the refectory; ALC's relationship to UD is now termed 'college'
References supporting change: See closure of tertiary boarding noted at https://www.alc.edu.au/accommodation/ and https://www.alc.edu.au/news-and-events/news/show/198; see nature of relationship to UD on home page at https://www.alc.edu.au/
Information to be corrected in the info box:
   - Upload new logo and remove colours in the info box
   - Delete 'Students' line in the info box
Explanation of issues: ALC has recently changed its logo; the number of students related to boarding capacity and is no longer relevant.
   References supporting change: new logo at https://www.alc.edu.au/about/who-we-are/our-logo/;
Information to be moved: Move section 'Tangara magazine' to 'History' section and update content to "Tangara was the college's annual magazine from 1968–2009 which encompassed all aspects of the community, boarding, teaching and pastoral and theological students."
Explanation of issues: Tangara hasn't been produced for nearly 10 years.
References supporting change: http://library.alc.edu.au/ search for 'Tangara' (last issue 2009)
Information to be updated: Change section 'Academic school' to 'Academic studies' and update content to something like:

"Pastoral studies stream

ALC trains pastors for service in the Lutheran Church of Australia. Students who are accepted into the pastoral studies stream generally complete the Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Ministry degrees. Subjects are taken in a number of different fields, such as history, theology, biblical studies, languages (including Greek and Hebrew studies) and pastoral theology. Aside from the vicarage period, the teaching is all done on-campus. As this is the only LCA seminary, students come from all over Australia and New Zealand and most live in nearby ALC accommodation.

Educational studies stream

ALC offers theological training for teachers preparing for service in Lutheran schools, complementary to teaching degrees at other universities, as well as further study relevant to in-service teachers. All courses are primarily taught online with students based all over Australia.

Open studies stream

ALC provides theological education both via on-campus study and online learning for long distance students. Students enrol in vocational education and training (VET) qualifications or complete studies for higher education degrees.

Research

Higher degrees by research are also studied at ALC by international and domestic students."

Explanation of issues: ALC no longer refers to separate schools

Unable to review edit request   Your edit request could not be reviewed because it is unclear which references are connected to which claim statements in the text of your proposal. When proposing edit requests, it is important to highlight in the text which specific sources are doing the referencing for each claim. The point of an inline citation is to allow the reviewer and readers to check that the material is sourced; that point is lost if the citation's note number is not clearly placed. Note the example below:

☒N INCORRECT

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles, while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles. The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.

      3. Uemura, Shū. The Sun's Heat. Academic Press, 2018, p. 2.

In the example above there are three references provided, but the claim statements do not indicate which reference applies where. Your edit request similarly does not specify where the references you have provided are to be placed. These links between material and their source references must be more clearly made, as shown in the next example below:

Sorry about that. I was following the 'Request edit' template which did not mention the finer details of referencing. Is it necessary to explicitly reference so many parts of the article when the information all comes from the same website? (Coralie at ALC (talk) 01:35, 8 January 2019 (UTC))[reply]

In answer to your question, does it need to be ref tagged if the information all comes from one source - the answer to that is that an article should not have large portions of its content coming from only one source. Particularly if that one source is the college itself. Articles on Wikipedia are viewed as 'healthy' if they contain content coming from a variety of sources. Having the entirety of the article sourced according to only one reference is unhealthy. What that does is make the college's Wikipedia article an extension of the college's own website, which is not Wikipedia's purpose. The college's own website is the most appropriate location for most of this information. The best way to ensure this article's health is to search out and provide references which originate from outside of the college itself. To help you in this endeavor, I've placed some search suggestions at the top of your edit request on this talk page. Simply click on the links found in the box to look for sources about this college.   Unable to implement

  • Please specify the correct Hex colors and a reference verifying these colors originating from the college itself.[a]
  • The logo must be uploaded to Wikipedia before it can be added to the article. You may use the File Upload Wizard to accomplish this.

Regards,  Spintendo  04:54, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  1. ^ Colleges and universities as well as sports teams and the like are typically the only approved sources for official colors which an entity will use to represent itself. As such, only a reference from the college should be supplied as the source for color information.

Reply 10-JAN-2019[edit]

Simply delete the colours - they are not relevant - so no hex codes are needed. Also I'm unable to upload files to Wikipedia without a confirmed account - can you assist with that? Coralie at ALC (talk) 07:34, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
