Crude oil and petroleum[edit]

The article talks about the price of crude oil vs. the price of petroleum. Crude oil is petroleum, isn't it? Was the intent to compare the price of crude oil with that of petrol/gasoline? 72.75.67.226 (talk) 01:57, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does it exist?[edit]

The article doesn't say anything about evidence that asymmetric pricing exists in the real world, or to what extent. It suggests that it does (its presence is not in line with...), but doesn't say so. 72.75.67.226 (talk) 01:59, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

response: As with every economic phenomena it is a model that explains some of the features of the markets. Whether it's true or not, nobody knows for sure - but the fact that government agencies investigate it, gives a clue. Plus, people get PhD researching it, which is a proof that it's a valid subject for a wiki. Jinxs (talk) 07:12, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't suggest that it wasn't a valid topic for an encyclopedia. I said that the article didn't tell me whether price transmission has been observed to be asymmetric. Also, talking about "its existence" suggests that it exists, and giving this as a reason for "considerable interest" only makes sense if it has been observed. 72.75.67.226 (talk) 04:33, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
