Justification for Page[edit]

There are several reasons I created this page:

  • for 44 years, it was the largest and only national association for those that manage volunteers
  • many thousands of people attended its annual conference over the years
  • it is very hard to now find any information about this organization online. This wikipedia page will be the only place for someone to read the history of AVA, unless they know the old web site address and go to archive.org
  • the demise of a respected, important nonprofit association is worth telling
  • management of volunteers is an area of expertise, just like other areas of expertise highlight on Wikipedia pages, like Human resource management, Mechanical engineering, or Project management, and associations for those professionals have profiles on Wikipedia, such as those listed here on this List of human resource management associations

I'll be letting various former AVA members know about the page and encourage them to improve it.
