Community theatre[edit]

I'm sure I remember seeing a community theatre project about the Armley Hippo, performed on Leeds Uni campus, certainly before 2009 (when I more or less left Leeds) and probably pre-2003 (when I early-retired). Archives of the university's "Reporter" magazine, or YEP, might shed some light on this. Deserves a mention in the "popular culture" section, if we can track it down. Thank you for this. I don't have a lot of time for the next couple of weeks, but I'll do a search when I can. Storye book (talk) 08:47, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've added the Leeds Hippo Project of 2008, but it doesn't mention theatre, and I believe you might be referring to an earlier event? Storye book (talk) 09:33, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A former colleague suggests it might have been 2002 as a 150th anniversary project? PamD 10:18, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have another try, but if you haven't found it on the internet, I doubt that I could. The Yorkshire Post and Evening Post on the British Newspaper Archive have only been photographed up to 1954 last time I looked, so I don't suppose we'll see 2002 YP archives for some time yet. The old YP's own actual bound volumes are in a cellar and inaccessible, according to their own archivist (he told me on the phone a few years ago). I think the only possibility would be a trip to Leeds Uni Library. I'm an alumnus of that uni, so I guess I could still get access to the library if I renewed my ticket. So it's possible, but it might be a while before I would be able to do that. I'll keep my eyes open, anyway. Thank you for letting us know about this.
