Disputed[edit]

This article appears to be completely false historical revisionism, with no references. My previous attempt to get it deleted was unsuccessful, so I'm not sure what to do with it. --Holdek (talk) 07:44, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The disputed tag may get someone to provide references. If it doesn't work, you could nominate it for deletion again, or just be bold and redirect to something like History of science or Arab. Mangojuicetalk 18:45, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea. I'll probably redirect it to History of Science if there aren't any references provided after a while. --Holdek (talk) 06:45, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge ideas from AFD[edit]

The last contributor to the AFD, Michael Kinyon, suggested merging to History of science in the Islamic World. To my eyes, that looks like an excellent target for a merge (well, it and its sub pages.) GRBerry 19:06, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I considered that, but then realized that there may be: A. Noteworthy pre-Islamic Arab contributions to science, and B. Noteworthy contributions to science that originated in Christian Arab or other non-Islamic Arab scientific communities. Considering this, I think it would be better to redirect to the more general History of Science article. --Holdek (talk) 01:00, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Having looked at History of science in the Islamic World, B is in scope there. I don't see any claims of A on the page. For the redirect, if someone somehow searched on this title, which page would they rather end up at? I think they would appreciate the Islamic world page more. I personally don't think merge is appropriate as none of the content on the page is sourced. Only sourced statements should be merged anywhere, and the reference to the sourcing should go with them. What the claims are on this article are irrelevant because they are not sourced and are highly dubious. As to your question about which page a potential researcher would rather end up at, I would venture that many people wouldn't have any idea because they don't know anything about "Arab contributions to science." In that regard, I think it could mislead them into thinking that "Arab" is synonymous with "Muslim."
Again, the basic problem with this article and re-directing it is that the content of it is basically worthless, so I think we should concentrate on what the title of the article means. But I do agree with you that it should be a redirect and not a merge. --Holdek (talk) 01:47, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
