New Zealand as well as Australia?[edit]

At the top of the infobox it has country = Australia and New Zealand. Is it a memorial to NZers as well as Australians? I know NZers were part of ANZAC but isn't this memorial to Australians only (despite the ANZAC in its name)? Nurg (talk) 06:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a memorial it was designed specifically to commemrate New South Welshmen who were part of the ANZAC Corps. --Gene_poole (talk) 20:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so we should remove New Zealand from the infobox, right? Nurg (talk) 02:35, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The second Lake of Reflection[edit]

This article does not seem about to go anywhere, so There is currently a proposal by the City of Sydney to complete the second Lake of Reflection in time for the 75th anniversary of the ANZAC Memorial. This date has passed. Anyone have an update? Rumiton (talk) 12:42, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ANZAC War MemorialAnzac Memorial – As per [1]. OSX (talkcontributions) 06:25, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: I have mentioned this issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#ANZAC War Memorial move discussion (diff) for more input.
    • I am concerned that new editors that may have a COI have taken it upon themselves to make large changes, in particular "ANZAC War Memorial" to "Anzac Memorial", throughout the text. Even if "Anzac Memorial" is the 'official' name, WP:COMMONAME would apply.
    • In my experience it is commonly known as the "ANZAC War Memorial", written either ANZAC or Anzac, but as ANZAC is (or was) an acronym I feel uppercase is more appropriate.
    • The page name has been "ANZAC War Memorial" since 07:30, 31 August 2004‎ when the page was created, over 11 years. [2] 220 of Borg 15:47, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose cut and paste moves are not justifications. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 00:18, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This move request was apparently suggested based on edits made recently by a new editor with only four edits to his name. Unfortunately, as explained in the section that I've opened below, the edits constitute original research. Most of the changes are not backed up with citations from reliable sources, just an editor's own research. Accordingly, I've reverted the changes. --AussieLegend () 15:42, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edits by A Martin[edit]

Recent edits to the article by new editor A Martin include "Correction of errors based on consultation with Brad Manera, Anzac Memorial Head Curator" and "Based on consultation with Brad Manera, head curator at the Anzac Memorial" in edit summaries. As he has only made four edits in total to Wikipedia, A Martin is probably not aware that this is a clear indication of original research. As it is original research, the changes made by him must be reverted, as original research is not permitted by policy. --AussieLegend () 15:02, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've now reverted those changes, hopefully without affecting reasonable changes made since the OR was added. --AussieLegend () 15:35, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ANZAC War MemorialAnzac Memorial – I have reviewed WP:COMMONAME and previous move requests for this article. Anzac Memorial is known as such throughout a number of sources: Anzac Memorial website, NSW Government: https://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/; NSW Government State Heritage Register: https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/ViewHeritageItemDetails.aspx?ID=5053512 ; Legislation, Anzac Memorial (Building) Act 1923: https://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/view/act/1923/27/full ; Publication, The Book of the Anzac Memorial, New South Wales, published 1934: https://trove.nla.gov.au/work/12005403?q&versionId=32048260 ; Media, Sydney Morning Herald, 2018: https://www.smh.com.au/national/anzac-memorial-completed-after-84-years-ready-for-armistice-centenary-20181005-p50805.html ; Anzac Memorial is both the common and official name for the monument. The use of ANZAC and Anzac are preference-based however Anzac Memorial using proper case is reflected across these sources, in particular the Anzac Memorial's website. Legislation to protect use of the word 'Anzac' can be found here: https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2014C00072. Use of proper case "Anzac" is outlined by the Australian Government's Department of Veterans Affairs: "It is generally advised that 'ANZAC' should be used when referring to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. For other, more modern usages of the word (Anzac Day, Anzac Spirit, Anzac Centenary etc.), DVA recommends 'Anzac'." Source: https://www.dva.gov.au/commemorations-memorials-and-war-graves/protecting-word-anzac . Though the Anzac Memorial was originally dedicated to those who served in the First Australian Imperial Force (commonly referred to as ANZACs), it was rededicated in 1984 and its "stated purpose was to honour the men and women of NSW who served in all wars where Australia had been involved" NSW Government Architect's Conservation Management Plan, 2007, as quoted in the Memorial's State heritage inventory listing, https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/ViewHeritageItemDetails.aspx?ID=5053512. The re-dedication is legislated in the Anzac Memorial (Building) Amendment Act, 1984 and supports modern usage of the name and style Anzac Memorial. "The trustees are...hereby authorised to conduct a ceremony to dedicate the memorial building as the principal New South Wales State memorial to Australians who have served, or who serve, in wars in which Australian service personnel have been, or may be, engaged." Disambiguating the title[edit]

Irrespective of the outcome of the renaming discussion above, could we look at some kind of disambiguation. There are many ANZAC memorials in Australia. Adding “, Sydney” or similar would be helpful to the reader. Kerry (talk) 12:40, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and (Sydney) would probably be the best one, IMHO. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 09:29, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Who opened the extension?[edit]

I was at the ANZAC War Memorial extension today, and took a photo of the plaque outside:

THIS MEMORIAL EXTENSION
WAS OPENED BY A
GRANDSON OF THE QUEEN
ON THE 20TH OCTOBER 2018

Media at the time is quite clear that the extension was opened by Prince Harry, in an official capacity at the time, accompanied by Meghan Markle. Has the plaque been replaced to erase Harry from history, or something? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.198.27.218 (talk) 12:58, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
