"In 1988 he made an extended appearance on the television discussion After Dark alongside David Irving, Lord Hailsham and Jack Jones among others."[edit]

Um ...... oh.

What did they discuss? Did he say anything interesting? Insights into Anthony MB the man? Any indiscretions about the GOM (tho it seems unlikely) or instructive anecdotes that had hitherto lain concealed or dormant?

As it stands, I'm not sure this statement tells us anything the reader needs/wishes (or should need/wish) to know. But feel free to tell me if I'm missing something obvious here. Regards Charles01 (talk) 10:44, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Charles01:, The subject under discussion was, Winston Churchill: Hero or Madman? What AMB contributed, I'm afraid I don't know. KJP1 (talk) 15:39, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Um ... oh. And thank you. It's the sort of programme title which would certainly have grabbed an English audience, I guess. Still not persuaded - unless Anthony said something unexpected or cast his vote for "madman" - that turning up on a television talk show is worth including in the wiki entry. But since till now no one reacted to my question, I don't think anyone else has sufficiently strong views to share them. And I don't have sufficiently strong views to remove the line in question based on that level of feedback. Happy Sunday. Thanks again. Charles01 (talk) 15:48, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia already provides a little clarification. Consulting List_of_After_Dark_editions produces the information that a copy of this programme is available for academic download via BFI InView, so those with the necessary accreditation can check for themselves. The opening of the programmme as transmitted states that Anthony Montague Browne had not spoken at length about Winston Churchill (with whom he worked for some time) before that evening. I hope this is helpful. AnOpenMedium (talk) 08:00, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I think this does indeed take the thing beyond a "throw-away remark" along the lines that he once appeared on a television talk show.
If you were able to provide a url link that we could use for a source note here that would be EVEN better. You did give a general link to a web page, but that gave no indication that the Montague Browne appearance is lurking behind it. Sorry if I'm being dim and it was there all the time. Thanks again. I tried to find it myself from the usual sources but was unable to. What I did manage to unearth was that the highlight of the show was a furious row between Hailsham and Jack Jones. I'd have liked to have seen that almost as much as the famous row between AMB and a very drunk George Brown after the latter gave a mocking impersonation of Churchill! KJP1 (talk) 10:59, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. - It probably isn't trivia as AMB did know Churchill very well - at least in his old age. And he was famously discreet, at least until his Long Sunset memoirs, when in need of money. But I absolutely agree it was less than helpful as it stood. KJP1 (talk) 11:05, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Charles01 - Digging around in the murk of YouTube, you can actually find a 10-minute segment of the After Dark episode. It’s mainly Jack Jones talking, but there are a couple of AMB interventions. Type in After Dark May 1988. KJP1 (talk) 13:01, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll maybe take a look. Be well. Charles01 (talk) 16:28, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
