Updates: Gibbons etc.[edit]

Added a number of references from Gibbon's 2009 article. Also composition dates (found in New Grove.) Also ref. to the edition of Columbiad by Stiller (2007). Stiller's introduction notes that "Part I was performed by itself, to great acclaim, in Prague on May 3, 1857, with no indication that it was part of any larger work. It is in fact a thoroughly reconceived recomposition of Heinrich's 1837 'grand American national chivalrous symphony.'" Judd (talk) 01:11, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Kentucky Beethoven"[edit]

I believe Heinrich was sometimes called "The Kentucky Beethoven," but I don't have a citation. This would be a good add if somebody can find a source. Opus131 (talk) 18:23, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct -- though I also don't have a source right off -- but I've heard or read that phrase too. He conducted the first performance of any Beethoven symphony in the United States -- in Lexington, Kentucky (not sure which symphony). The David Barron/J. Bunker Clark in the current New Grove cites a contemporary, unnamed critic who called him "the Beethoven of America." Antandrus (talk) 19:04, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name[edit]

I've put {{cn}} next to the claim that his birth name was Anthony Philip Heinrich. Since he was born to a German-speaking family in a majority German-speaking area, it is far more likely that his birth name was Anton Philipp Heinrich. This source gives the German form as an "also known as" but doesn't explicitly say it was his birth name. —Mahāgaja · talk 13:59, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
