"The innovative ideas about painting of the French impressionists were introduced into the Netherlands by the artists of the Hague School"[edit]

"The innovative ideas about painting of the French impressionists were introduced into the Netherlands by the artists of the Hague School" ...

This is just plain wrong I'm afraid and I've scratched it. I've also scratched an obscure uncited remark about the paintings of Claude Monet and a rather inconsequential comment about Amsterdam as a centre of artistic life.

In their place I've provided a translation of the Dutch page, but it's not a long article and I don't have any particular expertise in the movement. RobvanderWaal (talk) 02:05, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Curiously I've found a quote from the Rijskmuseum of all places which asserts exacly this and in the spirit of Wikipedia verifiability I've reintroduced it (but originally it was an uncited copy vio), citing the source and removing the refimprove template as the article is now adequately cited, for what it's worth. It's still plain wrong, however. Breitner may have brought the spirit of French impressionism back with him, but he was never really a painter of the Hague School in the first place. As for the rest of them they were far too content with their little niche of Dutch realism, which brought in solid pennies and real fortunes, the London and New York offices of Goupil stacked to overflowing with their work, to be bothered with revolutionary French art movements.
On second thoughts I've just cited the source without comment. Let someone else add it in if moved to do so. I rather suspect "Amsterdam Impressionism" is essentially an invention of someone in the Dutch Tourist Office :). RobvanderWaal (talk) 13:57, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
