Copyright in lists[edit]

The list has been removed from this article for copyright concerns and should not be restored without some demonstration of compatible license.

Lists are copyrightable content and thus cannot be replicated without permission of the copyright holder on Wikipedia when their material is creatively compiled. That is, a list of "best-selling fu" is not creative, because it is simply a list of data. But rankings generally are creative, as they are often based on weightings of factors that require subjective opinion. It is not a fact that "student satisfaction" is 75% of the most important factor in determining how good a college it is. That is the opinion of Forbes' list-makers.

Because this list is compiled using a subjective formula, it can be described, but not replicated without permission. See Wikipedia:Copyright in lists for a more indepth explanation. See also WP:TOP100 and WP:DCM (for the process for obtaining permission, which has been useful in obtaining rights to some lists before). --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:36, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
