Who out there can get a book published[edit]

I have written a novel and wish to get it published. I have sent letters to agents, but all say because of the economy ... etc. Is there anyone out there that know how to make this happen?

Well, the last place you'll find an interested publisher or agent is by posting on wikipedia. All I can suggest is looking at various agents, although I do have to say that you should exercise a little caution- there's a lot of agents that will take advantage of hopeful writers. The same can be said for a lot of companies that focus on self-publishing. Many companies price gouge & charge hidden fees, so please take extra care to read all of the fine print. I've heard decent enough things about CreateSpace (Amazon's publishing branch) & sometimes some of the authors that do well through there are picked up to publish through the AmazonEncore branch.

Right now your best hope is to publish through CreateSpace & make your book available for a kindle download, which seems to help a lot of authors out. Then monitor the ABNA boards & watch for when the submission period for the next year begins, then submit your novel. I'd start working on your pitch now, so you might want to start communicating with others on the board- most are willing to help you on this part. Updated page, removed link[edit]

The page is currently up to date. I also added a description of the categories as of the 2010 competition as well as removed a link to the writer's group formed by some of the 2008 contestants. It isn't really relevant to the page & as of 2010 nobody has written a wiki entry for it, so I removed it. Tokyogirl79 (talk) 05:55, 11 June 2010 (UTC)tokyogirl79[reply]

  • I did a little research & noted that there's only 2 issues out so far, so it might be a bit premature to really add it to wikipedia. I will make a note on the page saying "Some authors have been picked up by various publishing houses, with one author forming their own self-published journal to showcase various ABNA authors as well as other unpublished authors." It would be good to note that people are getting published via this contest & a brief mention of Conclave would fit in well with this. Tokyogirl79 (talk) 06:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)tokyogirl79[reply]

No hotlinking[edit]

Just wanted to mention, there should be no hotlinking to product pages for any of the books, not even in the external links section. There's no need to link to these at all and it can be somewhat construed by some as being promotional in nature. There's no encyclopedic benefit to linking to merchant sites for these books. I know that this was done in good faith, but it's just not something you're supposed to do. (Although it did make me realize that this needs to be updated soon!Tokyogirl79 (talk) 06:02, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
