Hello, I'm MarioSoulTruthFan and I'll be reviewing this article against the GA criteria. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 22:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Lead[edit]

  • "After releasing six independent records, the band decided to pursue a record contract" → why? (it should also be stated here)
  • "I Can Only Imagine" received particular praise. → "I Can Only Imagine" received particular complements.
  • "performed poorly on the charts" → under performed on the charts
  • "In its 25th anniversary edition, CCM Magazine listed Almost There as one of '100 Albums You Need to Own'" → should also be stated in the lead.

Background and recording[edit]

  • "MercyMe formed in 1994 by vocalist Bart Millard, guitarist Mike Scheuchzer, and keyboardist Jim Bryson". → MercyMe was formed in 1994 by vocalist Bart Millard, guitarist Mike Scheuchzer, and keyboardist Jim Bryson
  • "although the band had wanted to write their own material" → remove had
  • caved → replace for a more formal word such as concur or acquiesce; and it should be "cave in", which means falling to the pressure, the former is falling into an hole.
  • "the band felt that they had been pushed a little" → add since before the band felt....

Composition[edit]

  • You have a tag in the begging of the article due to overuse of non-free material. You don't need 3 samples, use only two.
  • You can leave the sample of the single "Only Imagine" and one of the other two.
  • "Bless Me Indeed (Jabez's Song)" is one of the faster songs on the album → "Bless Me Indeed (Jabez's Song)" is one of the fastest songs on the album
  • "The final two songs on the album, "All Fall Down" and "In You", are slower–paced songs, with the latter being led by piano and strings". → "All Fall Down" is not supported by the source
    • Not so sure here. The reviewer says "the album ends with two slower songs"; those are the final two on the album. Toa Nidhiki05 14:45, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I missed that while reading the article, sorry. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:02, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Release and promotion[edit]

  • Almost There was released on August 14, 2001 → where?
  • major success" → bias
  • "single's success" → same as previous
  • The band released their second album, Spoken For, on October 1, 2002. More than a year after the album's release and after the release of Spoken For, Almost There remained near the top of the Christian charts → More than a year after the album's delivery and after the release of the band's second studio album, Spoken For (2002), Almost There remained near the top of the Christian charts
  • "became a success on mainstream radio" → sounds bias and it's not in the article.
    • Changed to "received airplay on mainstream radio formats". Toa Nidhiki05 14:45, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Almost There was certified double platinum on January 20, 2005 → Almost There was certified double platinum on January 20, 2005 by RIAA

Critical reception and accolades[edit]

  • "particular praise being given to "I Can Only Imagine"." → particular complement being given to "I Can Only Imagine". (avoid repetition of vocabulary)
  • "Losey also noted the "guitar nuances" of Scheuchzer as being similar to U2's The Edge, and praised the Byrson as [placing] intense but subtle keyboard traces within the context of each tune". → you missed to open the quote.
  • While Woodroof felt the album did not deliver an innovative sound, he said it "offers a breath of fresh air—and a sincerity sure to hold other artists wishing to dive into the genre accountable". → While Woodroof felt the album did not deliver an innovative sound, he complemented as offering "a breath of fresh air—and a sincerity sure to hold other artists wishing to dive into the genre accountable".
  • The word "felt" is over-used. Replace some "felt" for sensed, perceived ...
  • "In its 25th anniversary edition, CCM Magazine listed Almost There as one of '100 Albums You Need to Own'. At the 33rd GMA Dove Awards, "I Can Only Imagine" won the awards for Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. CCM Magazine ranked "I Can Only Imagine" as the fourth-greatest song in Christian music" → In its 25th anniversary edition, CCM Magazine listed Almost There as one of '100 Albums You Need to Own'. In the following year, the previous magazine, ranked "I Can Only Imagine" as the fourth-greatest song in Christian music. At the 33rd GMA Dove Awards, "I Can Only Imagine" won the awards for Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year.

Track listing[edit]

  • According to the Platinum Edition it's missing #32, it's the music video.

Personnel[edit]

Charts and certifications[edit]

  • I don't see the use of "Weekly single charts and certifications" since each song has their own article. Being both GA status.
  • If the song has ranked at number 128 in the YEC of Billboard 200 in 2012 how come has only being able to chart in the heatseekers chart?
    • The weekly charts section shows the year the album peaked on a chart. So it peaked on Heatseekers in 2002, the Billboard 200 and Christian Albums chart in 2003, and the Top Pop Catalogs Album in 2004. The alternative (including them all on one table with "Charts 2001-04") doesn't show when they peaked. Toa Nidhiki05 15:09, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Use "Certification Table" instead of the one you have on "Certifications"
  • I would rather have one space between each year the album entries in YEC and Weekly album charts.
  • I forgot this, but the tables in the weekly charts should have the same width.

References[edit]

Some issues here:

  • Reference #20 has both work and publisher merged in the publisher since you use work most of the times I would suggest you to remove the publisher and leave the work.
  • Reference #21 and #22 are linked not only twice but one is "Crosswalk.com" while the other is "Crosswalk", it should be the former.
  • Each wikilink should only be linked once. example give: reference #41 and #42 (Billboard). you have many more: ref 1 and ref 2; ref 6,7 and 8...
  • Your last reference goes for Adele?

Overall GA review[edit]

@Toa Nidhiki05: one of the best articles I have read here. I wouldn't have done better myself. Address the issues here and it will be granted GA status. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 12:19, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

All changes should be complete now. Toa Nidhiki05 01:47, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Toa Nidhiki05: not quite yet. reference 25 and 59 should have the same publisher so "Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)" for both (only link once) and reference 1 and 2 redirect for the same page as 6,7, 8, and 9. Remove the Tag "may contain excessive or improper use of non-free material" on the top of the article, as well as the mixed and positive review scores from the "score box". MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 11:53, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, those should be fixed now. Toa Nidhiki05 14:53, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You miss the first issue I raised, after that has been addressed it will be raised to GA. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:35, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I can't modify the one from the template, so they both just have Recording Industry Association of America now. Toa Nidhiki05 18:58, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Gladly passing now the article. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:02, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
