Birth place[edit]

There's been some edit warring over his birth place which is currently up in the air. I can only find two sources that mention his birth place: Fox Sports - "Doha-born youngster with Sudanese roots" and AFP (via Times of India) - "Sudanese-born Ali". Since both sources seem reliable yet conflict with each other, I've removed his birth place from the infobox and lede altogether for the time being until better sources come out. I also recently found an article by ESPN that claims he was born in Sudan. The references that were added in an earlier edit as proof of him being born in Doha didn't mention his birth place but only that he played for a Qatari club from the age of seven. I have requested page protection, since the same user has been disrupting the article with an illogical argument and a source that doesn't back him/her up. Also, from the argument that they accept only Qatari people: http://www.aspire.qa/aboutTIDAdmissions.aspx - here it says that they look for talent in Qatari schools and "regardless of where the boys originate from, all boys undergo a strict three-tiered selection process" Baros1 (talk) 09:41, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please tell me the proof that he’s born in Sudan? Do you have any pictures of him in Sudan with his father. So how can you close a discussion that has zero evidence. Do you know there is a large sudani community in Qatar, that have a lot of kids born in Qatar? I have seen a lot of other nationals at my age in the 90s. English sites aren’t reliable since they don’t operate in Qatar and in no way they have proof of their claims. Schools that are operating in Qatar not from other countries, and those schools are from a young age, so not high school. Plus Almoez didn’t start in aspire academy, he started in a small Qatari club then moved to aspire. Plus the article you showed was influenced by what was written on Wikipedia for his birth. While what you're saying may be true, information based on reliable references that are verifiable for everyone - not speculation, conjecture, or hearsay. The proof that we have regarding his birth place is found in the references on this very thread and on the article page. Currently, the references, all of which the community would deem reliable sources of sports journalism, overwhelmingly support a birth place in Sudan. If you can find some reliable sources explicitly stating he was born in Doha, then we can discuss it further. Until then, I believe we have sufficient evidence for him being born in Sudan. Funny thing is that The Guardian source was written last year, before the hype on Almoez and by a reporter that is based in Qatar. But ok, let's imagine for a second that this guy is right and foreign sources cannot be right. Then, we have an article by Qatar Tribune (guess what? It operates in Qatar!!) stating he was born in Sudan: - "Qatar’s Almoez pick of the bunch in Asian Cup for young forwards". Baros1 (talk) 09:54, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
