Gold Tops[edit]

Isn't this area typically called "Gold Tops" in English? This might cast some doubt on the etymology, c.f. the Welsh name for Goldcliff which is given as Allteuryn. Also see the etymology for the Welsh name for Nash, which is Trefonnen? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:53, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Name and pronunciation[edit]

Have removed pronunciation statement. It is uncited and does not use IPA, and seems to disagree with this news article, which is also very problematic. "Pronounced by locals" is also a very ambiguous term (is this Allt yr yn, Newport or Wales?). Cymrogogoch (talk) 12:21, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, I'd agree with WalesOnline. That news article is "very problematic"? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:25, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would say very problematic. It uses very rough uses very approximate pronunciation equivalencies with other English words which are subject to variations in their own pronunciations ("Kyre" for "Caer" and "Care" for "ker").
Also, it's written by an in-house reporter and does not reference any work or expert. Just generally these WalesOnline articles are poor, often incorrect and subject to changes after publication date. Cymrogogoch (talk) 13:41, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree, it's not the best, is it. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:43, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
