@Ipigott:, (since you have reviewed it),:-- I am not sure that I see any claim(s) to notability, in the article. I will note that OBE and KHM are not considered to contribute to notability of the subject, courtesy the abundance of their awarding.All the rest of the sources are trivial mentions as to the Madras hospital and none of them provides any significant coverage, other than mere name mentions about her. And, whilst nothing of this sort has been claimed, I will put it in record, that being a woman physician, in colonial-times, was not any rare event. Winged Blades of Godric: Thanks for taking a general interest in new biographies of women. I also see you have a special interest in colonial India. Nevertheless, I can hardly agree with you that MacPhail's pioneering work as a physician in Madras in the 19th century was not notable. The various sources mentioning her various achievements in the article seem perfectly adequate to me. There are certainly many more to which we do not have easy access. Ipigott I believe that we can take the word of the Indian and British governments, who honored her for her public service, that she was notable. Given the context of history, and the fact that by 1888 only 10 of the 60 women physicians registered in Britain at the time, were doing missionary work abroad, the claim that it was not a rare event is unfounded. As to Kaiser-I-Hind medal, she twice won the medal of the second class.That's a very-good addition and IMO, she passes ANYBIO:-) At any case, I will raise a discussion over INTB, as to the notability upon being awarded of KHM.
As to your last point, I might be wrong but umm........the sources, I'm reading about the locus of Countess of Dufferin Fund and allied aspects don't mention the exact numbers but don't paint such a bleak scenario. ∯WBGconverse 10:21, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, my interest is primarily focused on colonial South Asian landscape, than on women:-) I was checking digitized copies of Indian newspapers of that time and barring an article in a regional one, that mentioned her's opening of a dispensary, the auto-crawl did not pick up anything. (I will note though, that the OCR used isn't much reliable, from my previous experiences) I understand that there is a valid locus of disagreement but might choose to venture to an AfD, after a few days/about a month:-) ∯WBGconverse 10:27, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
