Bell's notability in his categories[edit]

On May 13, 2009, user:Headbomb removed all of the following categories, with the explanation: "cleanup bunch of unrelated categories". Headbomb left the single category "Alexander Graham Bell", from these previously categorized:

Categories: Légion d'honneur recipients | Alexander Graham Bell | Alumni of the University of Edinburgh | Alumni of University College London | University of Toronto | American businesspeople | American eugenicists | American inventors | American physicists | Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame inductees | National Geographic Society | Naturalized citizens of the United States | IEEE Edison Medal recipients | People from Brantford | People from Edinburgh | People from Massachusetts | People from Victoria County, Nova Scotia | Royal High School alumni | Scottish businesspeople | Scottish Canadians | Scottish inventors | Scottish immigrants to Canada | Scottish physicists | Scottish immigrants to the United States | Telecommunications history | American Unitarians | Canadians of Scottish descent | Canadian immigrants to the United States | Canadian inventors | People illustrated on sterling banknotes

With the exception of "University of Toronto", "American businesspeople" (debatable) and "American Unitarians", which were not reinstated, Bell was highly notable in each of the categories removed. If you doubt that, please refer to the two to three dozen biographies written on him. Multiple references can be provided for each category that has been reinstated.

To review the use of categories, see: Wikipedia:Categorization of people. WP policy and rules have never precluded multiple categorization, as long as each category is useful in identifying the applicable webpages that are notable to it. ---- Best ---- HarryZilber (talk) 17:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bell was notable as a Royal High School Alumni, sure. His awards were not, however, a Royal High School alumni. Neither were they a Canadian inventor. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 02:47, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For clarification, this article is on: 'Honors and tributes earned by Alexander Graham Bell', it is not an article on 'Honors and Tributes' per se. So for example, since Bell received a degree from Queen's University he is rightly categorized under 'Queen's University Alumni', and as he was also appointed to the Legion of Honour (of France), so again he needs to be shown under 'Légion d'honneur recipients'. The category facility is a tool to help user's find information they're seeking. Best: HarryZilber (talk) 13:15, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bell System transclusion[edit]

Why is the page Bell System transcluded in its entirety under the section Alexander Graham Bell honors and tributes#Other references to Bell's corporate namesakes? My best guess is it's supposed to be a transclusion of Template:Bell System, but someone mistakenly put a semicolon in front of the name. Changing it now. Feel free to revert if I'm in error. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 16:52, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
