Copyright violation

I removed a large section of text as it was taken directly from his Luchawiki page and only had 2 or 3 words changed, that's a major no-no. Do not put it back! Reword it or whatever but don't just put it back. MPJ-DK (talk) 07:42, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I've done one better, I've written the article myself, no copyright issues and a much better article, not bad at all if I do say so myself ;) MPJ-DK (talk) 14:43, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Picture

Why is there a picture of Sicodelico jr with his contract on the page of Dos Caras Jr?

  • Some IP added it, I took care of it - but it's not like you could not have done that yourself, everyone can edit wikipedia after all.  MPJ-DK  (No Drama) Talk  06:59, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Should this page be moved to Alberto Rodríguez?

I mean, sure he is better known by his ring name Dos Caras, Jr. However, he's now better know as Alberto Del Rio. He doesn't have one constant ring name. As a result, should the page be his real name, Alberto Rodríguez? Just a suggestion. Whatever you feel is best. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.89.60.103 (talk) 21:36, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

  • Moving it to his real name is a misunderstanding of WP:COMMONNAME and the wrong place to move it to. He has yet to even wrestle as Del Rio or make an impact, he could wrestle 3 matches and then get fired (Brayden Walker I'm looking at you) and then go back to Mexico where he would definitely work as Dos Caras, Jr. again. I'd say wait and see before he's moved.  MPJ -US  05:35, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

I would say now he is better known as Alberto Del Rio. I mean, many American wrestling fans have no idea who Dos Caras Jr is, but they know Alberto Del Rio. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.89.60.103 (talk) 16:37, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Well I would agree if this was the USAPedia - what americans know and do not know is not the yardstick for "Most known as", he's worked for about a decade as Dos Caras, Jr. in Mexico and Japan in both wrestling and MMA, two weeks on Smackdown does not eclipse that yet. I'm not saying he MAY be moved in the future, but right now he is still known to the majority of wrestling fans around the world as Dos Caras, Jr.  MPJ -US  17:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
    • it's not USAPedia, but it's English Language Wikipedia, so it should probably be under the name he's best known under in English Language countries, which would be Alberto Del Rio, not Dos Caras Jr. If there's a page for him on a Spanish Language wiki, then there he can be under Dos Caras Jr.76.226.128.148 (talk) 20:27, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

He has more exposure as Alberto Del Rio, around the world he is better known as Alberto Del Rio (Mexico being the exception). Many don't even know him as Dos Caras, Jr. The Same goes for Kaval (Low Ki). He page is under his real name, even tho he wrestled over a decade has Low Ki, because he is better known as Kaval and Senshi (WWE and TNA). this page should be moved to Alberto Rodríguez in my opinion.

Sense Alberto Rodríguez (AKA Alberto Del Rio) has won the Royal Rumble, I think it can be safely said that most people know him by names other than Dos Caras Jr. Either change his wiki entry to his real name or his now more famous WWE name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.44.80.29 (talk) 04:24, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

As an encyclopaedic entry, I would presume it would make more sense to be a reflection of facts, and therefore should be listed under his real name. Personally, as long as the relevant redirects and/or disambiguation pages redirect to THAT entry, isn't that the least argumentative (and correct) procedure? Or am I missing something? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrZoolook (talkcontribs) 00:22, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

This should be moved to his real name Alberto Rodríguez since he is getting more exposure as Alberto Del Rio but is also know as Dos Caras, Jr. He has won the "Royal Rumble" and the "Money in the Bank" match which might signal he's not going anywhere (Warmachine021 (talk) 04:31, 19 July 2011 (UTC)).

1999 Pan American Games

I know it says that he did on his profile on Pride's website (the source which is being used), but he did not win a medal at the 1999 Pan American Games. Those games were held in my hometown, so I was curious enough to actually look it up, no one by the name Alberto Rodriguez won a medal. If somebody else with more Wikipedia experience than I have wants to edit that, please do, but I don't know if I should take something out that cites a seemingly reliable source, even though that reliable source is incorrect.24.79.236.109 (talk) 16:29, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

There may be another explanation, there is no source on the page that 100% confirms that his real name is "Alberto Rodriquez", he could also be listed under his maternal last name in the results or something. Where did you look it up? is there a link or something? Maybe we can see if there is another name he could possibly have been listed under? I'm not saying he did win a medal but it may be a little hasty to say that he did not.  MPJ -US  05:06, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Move

I've noticed that there's been back and forth moving this article to the name Alberto Del Rio. Since there's arguments on both sides, a formal move proposal should be initiated first and consensus should be established here before it is moved from the old name. I assume that the argument is that he's "better known" as Alberto Del Rio. It may be hard for some to conceive, but he was very well known in Mexico as Dos Caras, Jr. For years, as a matter of fact. And he hasn't used the Alberto Del Rio name for a year yet. So moving the article to Alberto Del Rio at this time is very premature. --Jtalledo (talk) 04:56, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I think he's better know as Alberto Del Rio now, so the article should be name Alberto Del Rio Romangelo (talk) 17:19, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

The fact of the matter is that outside of Mexico (and possibly Japan due to his MMA career) the vast majority of wrestling fans now know him as Alberto Del Rio. The WWE is the largest pro-wrestling organization in the world (for better or for worse), so it seems to follow that the majority of wrestling fans would recognize his work in WWE more than in Mexico. Even though the CMLL is extraordinarily popular in Mexico, one would have to say that it is more akin to a niche market in the rest of the world. There are two possible solutions, change the name of the article to Alberto Del Rio, or change the name of the article to his real name Alberto Rodríguez. I would personally advocate for the latter, it is a more neutral option, and one that recognizes his status in WWE, without causing offence to CMML fans. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.44.80.29 (talk) 20:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Don't forget that he also won a Royal Rumble match and main evented a WrestleMania. How many people do that and are still better known by a previous name? Exactly, zero. TheGary (talk) 05:28, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Is there a reason this page is protected as Dos Caras Jr? I realize he spent a good portion of his career in Mexico, but he is now one of the top guys in the WWE, with signifigantly more exposure world wide than he had as Dos Caras Jr. Can we have a real discussion about moving this page instead of just edit warring over this? Does someone want to start an RfC for this? I understand when he was new to Smackdown 9 months ago it made sense to keep the page the way it was, but now I don't understand the resistance to the move. Iarann (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:12, 22 July 2011 (UTC).

To backup what I am saying about him being more famous for the WWE, that includes in Mexico. Here are the ratings numbers for Wrestling programming in Mexico, citing the Wrestling Observer from June 20th, 2011: "For this past weekend, AAA did a 3.1 rating and CMLL did a 2.5. Smackdown did an 8.6 and we didn’t get the Raw number. " If Smackdown did an 8.6, we can assume Raw did a similair number. If the WWE product is that much more popular in Mexico, it is likely even there he is more recognized as Alberto Del Rio than Dos Caras Jr. Iarann (talk) 17:22, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Ricardo Rodriguez

I know I can't be the only one confused why Ricardo Rodriguez is not even mentioned on the page? 96.25.248.210 (talk) 03:35, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Its wrestling name Jesus Rodriguez. He has been playing the part of Delrio's personal ring annoncer for several months. That should have been added before the redirection.--76.66.180.54 (talk) 21:17, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I've created his article but the wiki staff tagged it as speedy deletion due to lack of source, so everyone please help me find more source. Romangelo (talk) 17:21, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Christian

In the end of the Fued with Edge and Christian sub article. There is a link to a article on Christians name. But it redirects to the Religion of Christianity Page, not the wrestlers page. Please fix this. EDIT: It's fixed. Disregard this. GETYOPROPERTYTOOK (talk) 23:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Dos Caras, Jr.Alberto Del Rio – Based on WP:COMMONNAME, this article should be placed under the most common name Alberto Rodríguez is known for in English language sources. While in the past that may have been Dos Caras Jr, he has been wrestling as one of the top wrestlers in the WWE for the better part of a year under the name Alberto Del Rio. Quoting from WP:COMMONNAME "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it instead uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." While a small subset of the English speaking population of the world was certainly familiar with Dos Caras Jr, it can hardly be argued that a wrestler performing on Spanish and Japanese only language shows would be more popular than he would in the largest wrestling product in the world, especially when it that product is broadcast in English. Even in Mexico, he is likely to be more popular as Alberto Del Rio at this point based on statistics showing the WWE product has more than 3 times the ratings CMLL and AAA do in Mexico (sourced from Wrestling Observer July 20th, 2011 and June 2nd, 2011). Iarann (talk) 15:32, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm not necessarily for or against the move, but I do have some questions. It seems the argument for the move is because he is currently most known by the name "Alberto Del Rio". Until recently with his WWE fame, he was most known by the name "Dos Caras, Jr.". His birth name is "Alberto Rodríguez" and he has had a half dozen ring names. What happens in a few years if/when he picks up another ring name in which he is then most known by? Do we rename the article again? Why not move the article to "Alberto Rodriguez (wrestler)" or "Alberto Rodriguez (fighter)" and have common ring/stage names redirect there? Is there any harm leaving things as it is since "Alberto Del Rio" redirects here already? --TreyGeek (talk) 06:15, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
From WP:COMMONNAME: "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. We do not know what terms will be used in the future, but only what is and has been in use, and will therefore be familiar to our readers. However, common sense can be applied – if an organization changes its name, it is reasonable to consider the usage since the change." If his ring name changes again and he is even more popular under that new name, then the article should be moved at that point. Using his real name is not a good answer because no one knows him under that name and he has not used it either as a wrestler or a fighter. The requirement for the article naming is "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it instead uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." Albeto Del Rio is never reffered to as Alberto Rodríguez, and if he is ever refferenced as Dos Caras Jr it is only to note that he used to wrestle under that name. He is known most commonly in English as Alberto Del Rio, so that should be the name of the article. Iarann (talk) 17:05, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Removal of Inaccurate Information

At the bottom of the article, it says "In winning the title, Del Rio became the first ever Mexican WWE Champion.[62]" That fact, along with the reference, is incorrect, as Rey Mysterio was WWE Champion before Alberto Del Rio, as well as Eddie Guerrero, two prominent Mexican WWE performers that were both WWE Champion. The sentence and related article should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stylinhawaiian7 (talkcontribs) 09:21, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Mysterio and Guerrero are not Mexicans, how many times does this have to be explained?! They're Mexican-Americans, i.e. Americans.TheFBH (talk) 09:49, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Exactly, Mysterio and Gurrero were born in California and Texas respectfully unlike Alberto who born in Mexico.--70.24.209.180 (talk) 04:31, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Alberto Del Rio

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Alberto Del Rio's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "WWE":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 00:44, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Jose Alberto

Now, a source says that his name is Jose Rodriguez because Zeb Colter said his name in a video. What do you think? This is the only mention of Jose, other sources say Alberto Rodriguez. I don't know if we are in the right way, also because the article says José Alberto Rodríguez, but without a better source, it can be, also, Alberto José Rodríguez. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 00:06, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Ok firstly Jose seems like something stereotypical for a mexican character to be called I know there are so i just figured it was colter adding to his character. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.2.160.138 (talk) 12:36, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
