Discussion[edit]

  • "Tacitus, Annals I, English translation" redirects to [1], for some reason.
  • File:Agrip6.jpg, currently used in the Early life and family section has a very confusing copyright status, as information is minimal (and not in English) in sources; I'd suggest simply removing and replacing it with File:Agrippa, 1-25 CE; Altes Museum, Berlin (39282016015).jpg, a higher quality image with a correct copyright tag.

Prose Suggestions[edit]

Please note that almost all of these are suggestions, and can be implemented or ignored at your discretion. Any changes I deem necessary for the article to pass GA standards I will bold.

Lede[edit]

  • Infobox states he was born in Rome, but this is not actually attested and sourced in the body; suggest adding mentioning and sourcing it in his early life section if one can be found, if not, remove from the infobox.
  • (the daughter and only biological child of the Roman Emperor Augustus) suggest removing the parenthesis, to , the daughter and only biological child of the Roman Emperor Augustus

Name[edit]

  • Suggest merging this into the early life and family section.
  • Postumus was initially named "Marcus Agrippa" in honor of his father, who died shortly before his birth, meaning Postumus was given the full name "Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa Postumus". suggest Postumus was born named Marcus Agrippa, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa Postumus in full, in honor of his father, who died shortly before his birth.

Early life and family[edit]

  • Agrippa Postumus was born in 12 BC, seemingly three months after his father's death (mid-March 12 BC, Dio 54.28.3) and probably after 26 June. suggest Agrippa Postumus was born in 12 BC, approximately three months after his father, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, died in mid-march, likely after 26 June. with a note added for what Dio says.
  • He was born a member of the equestrian gens Vipsania. His father was Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, one of Augustus' leading generals, and his mother was Julia the Elder, the daughter of Augustus and his second wife Scribonia. suggest He was born into the equestrian gens Vipsania, as the son of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, one of Augustus' leading generals, and Julia the Elder, the daughter of Augustus and his second wife Scribonia.
  • Postumus was still a schoolboy, suggest changing schoolboy to student

Adoption[edit]

  • Postumus (his only remaining biological grandson) and Tiberius (the eldest son of Augustus' third wife Livia) suggest Postumus, his only remaining biological grandson, and Tiberius, Augustus' eldest stepson from his third wife, Livia.
  • It was not intended that Postumus receive the emperorship suggest Postumus was not intended to receive the emperorship,

Exile[edit]

  • The reason, Dio says, that Germanicus was chosen over Postumus is because Postumus was of an "illiberal nature" suggest Dio states that Germanicus was chosen over Postumus because of Postumus' "illiberal nature"
  • Postumus was held under intense security. suggest either removing this, or else changing moving it to before Augustus bolstered the natural inaccessibility of the rocky island by having an armed guard installed there as Postumus was held under intense security, as Augustus bolstered the natural inaccessibility of the rocky island by having an armed guard installed there.

Accession of Tiberius[edit]

  • According to Augustus' will, sealed on 3 April AD 13, Tiberius would inherit two-thirds of his estate, and Livia one-third. There is no mention of Postumus in the document. suggest However, according to Augustus' will, sealed on 3 April AD 13, Tiberius inherit two-thirds of his estate, and Livia one-third, and Postumus is not mentioned.

Post mortem[edit]

  • The attempt of Clemens to impersonate Postumus was only successful because people could not remember what he looked like, although Dio also says there was a resemblance between the two. suggest Clemens was able to impersonate Postumus because people did not remember what he looked like, although Dio also says there was a resemblance between them.
  • The impersonation was carried out by the same slave who had set out in AD 14 to ship Postumus away and the act was met with considerable success among the plebs. suggest Clemens had earlier worked to have Postumus sent away, but his act was very successful in convincing the plebs.

Historiography[edit]

  • not a mental disorder suggest rather than a mental disorder
  • @SpartaN: That is all of my suggestions; once the bolded issues are dealt with I will pass the article. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 18:50, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Iazyges: Bold changes and suggestions implemented. Let mew know if there's anything else. I appreciate you taking these up. SpartaN (talk) 19:40, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SpartaN: No problem! As an aside, Ichthyovenator and I are putting together a WikiProject for Roman/Byzantine emperors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Roman and Byzantine emperors, if you are interested. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 20:34, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. I do plan to eventually work on articles like Tiberius and Claudius, but most of the articles I work on are the relatives of emperors. So I guess I'm curious about two aspects: Do relatives and potential heirs fall under it's scope? and will it be a stand-alone wikiproject or a sub-project under Classical Greece and Rome (which includes the Byzantines I believe)? SpartaN (talk) 20:42, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The scope isn't super clear but I think the focus would be Emperors, their families and dynasties, and usurpers. Probably easy to sort via an importance system of all emperors as "top", usurpers/heirs as "high", close family as "mid", and so forth. At the moment it is shaping up to be a separate project, simply because of the small scope. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 20:45, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and signed up, definitely fits into my interests. I'm not much on wiki markup or anything so I won't be much help setting it up on the technical end of things, unfortunately. SpartaN (talk) 20:52, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not particularly fantastic either, although I would say much of the technical stuff doesn't need to be aesthetically pleasing so much as workable, as its a much smaller project than something like MILHIST. I'd love to be wrong, but I generally think that RBE is more likely to have a small number of very skilled and prolific editors, more so than a large body of varying concentrations and knowledge.
