Direct Sources[edit]

I think one should quote direct sources of the Broederbond as well. Don't they have a website? I think they call themselves Afrikanerbond these days and this is the site http://www.afrikanerbond.org.za/ Not that I would buy into their scheme...

Information needed about process of becoming a member[edit]

It would be great if someone would knowledgeable would add information about how members were selected. I happen to be reading Ah But Your Land Is Beautiful, by Alan Paton, in which one character is an Afrikaner and government official who says that he'll never rise very high because he's not a member. This got me to wondering about how some Afrikaners got in while others were left out. JamesMLane t c 18:59, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sweeping generalization[edit]

The statement "Between 1948 and 1994, all prominent figures of South African political life, including all leaders of the government, were members of the Afrikaner Broederbond.[2]" isn't supported by the reference [2] that at most claims that ALMOST all leaders of government were broeders. Even if the statement is restricted to South African PARLIAMENTARY politics it would ignore the parliamentary opposition that was initially numerous, as well as ignoring undoubtedly prominent figures of parliamentary life such as De Villiers Graaff, van Zyl Slabbert and Helen Suzman. I suggest it be changed to "Between 1948 and 1994, almost all leaders of the government were members of the Afrikaner Broederbond.[2] Jayjay45 (talk) 04:48, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The "leaders of government", by definition, excludes the opposition.Royalcourtier (talk) 20:39, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Broederbond still exists. The introduction talks in the past tense, and there is nothing about its history post 1994.

The section on companies with "Broederbond credentials" is peculiar. The companies mentioned may have had Broederbond members running them, but then so did most Afrikaans owned companies. I believe the section is unnecessary, and I am uneasy with the rationale behind it. This section is rather like a list of Jewish owned companies in an article on Jews. That might concern some people.Royalcourtier (talk) 20:37, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ending -what happened?[edit]

This ends in mid air, with a a meeting in 1986. What happened then? Was the organisation disbanded, outlawed, or does it still exist in some form? Does it have continuing influence? Baska436 Baska436 (talk) 10:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The ANC is not a credible source on this topic[edit]

Conlinp I have just reverted an edit you did that introduced content that cites the ANC. I'm pretty sure that the ANC is not a credible source about the Broederbond - particularly not in the 1960s. They were deadly enemies at the time so could hardly be expected to write neutrally or dispassionately about the subject. I'm about to go to bed so I'm not now able to examine the content in detail and look for better sources, however as we are both experienced Wikipedians I'm confident we can resolve this quite soon. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:26, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You entitled to revert. Just fix the mess they left behind when you wake up. Conlinp (talk) 21:33, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dodger67: that may be the case, but the recent version you reverted to is broken. Rather introduce any changes from the previous, clean version. I've reverted to this. Greenman (talk) 17:07, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Greenman, I hope to get back to this soon. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:57, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
