Fair use rationale for Image:Afetİnan.jpg[edit]

Yeşilyurt's claims[edit]

It is absolutely unacceptable to include the completely unsubstantiated claims of Yeşilyurt and the other pseudo-historians at Derin Tarih in this article as they are of no relevance to İnan's biography, per WP:FRINGE and WP:UNDUE. To begin with, Yeşilyurt is not a historian (unlike stated in the text that I removed), his claims have not been supported by any evidence or any publications in respectable literature. For Wikipedia to take such exorbitant claims even remotely seriously and include them in a biography of a person, the least that would be required would be discussion in a peer-reviewed article. A random guy bringing it up on a random TV show without any evidence - no way. The fact that Yeşilyurt got arrested is of no relevance to İnan's biography - if he's notable enough to have his own article, that is where this will be discussed. No historian of any academic repute takes these claims seriously. Mustafa Armağan, who runs Derin Tarih, the magazine in which Yeşilyurt writes, has no formal training or qualifications in history. The magazine itself was launched with an explicit neo-Ottomanist and anti-Kemalist agenda (with the support of the AKP government at the time as can be seen from the source), so no wonder why they make such defamatory claims. İlber Ortaylı, the giant of modern-day Turkish historiography calls them "ignorant men with no idea about history". Reactions of other historians can be found here. For goodness' sake, Yeşilyurt even has a book with a star of David on its cover accusing prominent figures of being freemasons, the implications of which would be obvious for anyone. Let us not lose ourselves in the whirlpool of news coming out of Turkey and honour the claims of charlatans in our biography articles. --GGT (talk) 02:51, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
