GA failed[edit]

1. Well written?: Fail
2. Factually accurate?: Close to passing
3. Broad in coverage?: Pass
4. Neutral point of view?: Pass (needs more about 4-5 inline citations, see below)
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images?: Fail

Additional comments :

  • The lead section doesn't follow the MoS, it should be larger.
  • He plays as a striker and is well known for his goalscoring exploits and trickery, which has won him many admirers such as Alan Shearer[1]. shouldn't be present in the lead section nor should it be an important topic of the article.
  • What is the year 6 side?
  • Boyd barely missed a game for his school. did he miss one or no?
  • A citation is needed for Boyd’s talent caught the eye of Middlesbrough who sent scouts to watch him. However, they decided against signing him and he signed for Hartlepool instead, the team he and his Dad supported and regularly watched., rephrasing this to make it clearer would also help the reader.
    • Note citation now added but may still need rephrasing. Englishrose 15:49, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • This presence of subjectiveness should be concoured with a source.
  • a shock last minute call up, why a shock call up, was it painful or what? ;)
  • Presence of weasel words.
  • If the editors feel the trivia is notable, it should be merged in the other sections in order to remove this unnecessary Trivia section.
  • Image:Adamboyd.jpg and Image:Boydscores.jpg don't state their fair use rationale.

Trivia Section[edit]

"He plays as a striker and is well known for his goalscoring exploits and trickery, which has won him many admirers such as Alan Shearer[1]." This can be added from the Trivia "Boyd considers himself as a big fan of former Arsenal player, Dennis Bergkamp. [20]" linked to here as he's evidently based his game on Bergkamp and has been likened to him. New source to back this up can be found here:[1]

However, they decided against signing him and he joined Hartlepool United instead, the team he supported with his dad and regularly watched. This can be added from the Trivia, ""As well as supporting Hartlepool, Boyd's other favourite team was Manchester United.[20]" if it is deemed important enough.

This piece of Trivia is probably the least important of them all: ""During Hartlepool’s pre-season tour in Holland, a streaker ran onto the pitch and danced in front of him. [20]"", but if we want to salvage it, I suppose it could be added to the end of the "Off Field Antics" paragraph with the sentence, "Ironically, 6 months before during Hartlepool’s pre-season tour in Holland, a streaker ran onto the pitch and danced in front of him."

These are just some ideas and I would be glad to here of anybody else’s input. Englishrose 16:04, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is a good idea to get rid of that dreaded trivia section and I think all 3 are relevant to the article and I agree with the positioning of the 3 trivial points that you proposed. Kingjamie 17:06, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've reworked the trivia section into the article. I'd be greatful for some feedback on the changes. Englishrose 12:05, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA on hold[edit]

This article will be put on hold (for 7 days) until these minor adjustments can be made :

1. Well written? Fail
2. Factually accurate? Pass
3. Broad in coverage? Pass
4. Neutral point of view? Pass
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images? Pass

Additional comments :

  • Lead section too short and not summarizing the article.
  • Words like currently shouldn't be used in a time-independent encyclopedia.
  • Boyd attended Grange Primary School and it was there where he was first spotted when the school’s headmaster and PE coach, Mr. Cross, selected him to play for the under-11 team, despite only being 7 years old [2]. is a bit messy in the wording.
  • Inline citations should go after punctuation in WP.
  • In He then attended the Hartlepool Manor School of Technology and he was once again recognized by the school’s headmaster, Alan White, a teacher who had previously taught Steve Harper and Paul Kitson. Boyd was just recognized, funny? Wasn't he recognized as a soccer player or something?
  • He also played for 5 years with a Sunday League side called Hartlepool St Francis, is a side a team?
  • who sent scouts to watch him and gave him a trial[2]., is tough to understand and needs more wikilinks.
  • The prose isn't to the GA standard, please have a throughout copyedit of the article.

The article got a good deal of work on the earlier comments but there is still work needed in copyediting that text. Good luck and if help is needed, please request my help as I can lend a hand. Lincher 16:36, 13 October 2006 (UTC) Lincher 16:36, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA passed[edit]

Work has been done in order to achieve the GA status and all the requirements are now met. Cheers, Lincher 21:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Automated peer review[edit]

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • If this article is about a person, please add {{persondata|PLEASE SEE [[WP:PDATA]]!}} along with the required parameters to the article - see Wikipedia:Persondata for more information.[?]
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (numbers), there should be a non-breaking space -   between a number and the unit of measurement. For example, instead of 9 pounds, use 9 pounds, which when you are editing the page, should look like: 9 pounds.[?]
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (numbers), please spell out source units of measurements in text; for example, the Moon is 380,000 kilometres (240,000 mi) from Earth.[?] Specifically, an example is 5 ft.
  • Per Wikipedia:Context and Wikipedia:Build the web, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006.[?]
  • The script has spotted the following contractions: hasn't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded.
  • As done in WP:FOOTNOTE, footnotes usually are located right after a punctuation mark (as recommended by the CMS, but not mandatory), such that there is no space in between. For example, the sun is larger than the moon [2]. is usually written as the sun is larger than the moon.[2][?]
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Adam Boyd/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment. This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that need to be addressed.

  • It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
Most of the article is OK (although not great) until we get to the Leyton Orient section, which is not only incomplete (see below) but also is poor shape with numerous one sentence paragraphs. This needs to be converted into acceptable prose. I would also like to see the lead expanded and updated.--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
All additions and expansions need to be thoroughly referenced with reliable sources.--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
This requires updating to include events and feedback of the last two years, especially regarding his time at Leyton Orient. The section on his personal life is very short and very little mention is made of his family or background. This would help create a more complete impression of the man. The section should also be above the table showing his career statistics.--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It follows the neutral point of view policy.
a (fair representation): b (all significant views):
  • It is stable.
  • It contains images, where possible, to illustrate the topic.
Although by no means essential, a recognisable image of him would be very helpful for this article. If one cannot be found then at least deal with the deleted image link in the infobox.--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • a (tagged and captioned): b (lack of images does not in itself exclude GA): c (non-free images have fair use rationales):
  • Overall:
    a Pass/Fail:

I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far. Regards,--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its been ten days and apart from the image redlink, nothing has been addressed. This article has failed its reassessment I am afraid. To regain GA status it will need to be relisted at WP:GAN or win an appeal at WP:GAR (although the latter is unlikely). Regards.--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:05, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
