Criteria[edit]

Good Article Status - Review Criteria

A good article is—

  1. Well-written:
  2. (a) the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct; and
    (b) it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.[1]
  3. Verifiable with no original research:
  4. (a) it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    (b) reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose);[2] and
    (c) it contains no original research.
  5. Broad in its coverage:
  6. (a) it addresses the main aspects of the topic;[3] and
    (b) it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  7. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  8. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  9. [4]
  10. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
  11. [5]
    (a) media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content; and
    (b) media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.[6]

Review[edit]

  1. Well-written:
  2. Criteria Notes Result
    (a) (prose) The lead should have something regarding the history, like the establishment year. Also section 4 should be written in prose format.  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 13:55, 17 December 2011 (UTC) Why there are unnecessary bold and italic letters in section 8.2 and 8.3. Also why the statement "AIT is one of the seven colleges ... and postgraduate departments." is in the history section?  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
    (b) (MoS) Remove all flags from section 6 as per MOS:FLAG.  Done Sourav Mohanty(talk) 14:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC) Use ";" instead of <big>'''..'''</big>. For example ";DH-PV edu-counselling" instead of "<big>'''DH-PV edu-counselling'''</big>"  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
  3. Verifiable with no original research:
  4. Criteria Notes Result
    (a) (references) References should be placed after punctuation marks. Like in section 2.1, "AIT admits students ... or their COMEDK UGET[35] ranks." should be change to "AIT admits students ... or their COMEDK UGET ranks.[35]"  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
    (b) (citations to reliable sources) Ref no.92 is not reliable (facebook). Also no references has been provided for the statement "AIT maintains ... ratio of 1:10.". Same is the case with the "motto" and "colours" section of the infobox. Also fix the dead links.  Done. There is no reference for the "colours" as the AIT logo itself indicates the colours of the college. Sourav Mohanty (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
    (c) (original research) See "popular and most sought after colleges" in the lead section. The source doesn't says that the college is popular and most sought after. It just says that it is a notable college of Bangalore.  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 14:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
  5. Broad in its coverage:
  6. Criteria Notes Result
    (a) (major aspects) The reviewer has no notes here. Neutral Undetermined
    (b) (focused) The reviewer has no notes here. Neutral Undetermined
  7. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  8. Notes Result
Remove words like "renowned" from section 2.5  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply] Fail Fail
  9. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.

    (b) (appropriate use with suitable captions) As per WP:NOTGALLERY, section 14 should be removed.  Done Sourav Mohanty (talk) 12:40, 17 December 2011 (UTC) There arr too many images at this moment, please remove unnecessary ones.  Done. Additional Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Compliance with other aspects of the Manual of Style, or the Manual of Style mainpage or subpages of the guides listed, is not required for good articles.
  2. ^ Either parenthetical references or footnotes can be used for in-line citations, but not both in the same article.
  3. ^ This requirement is significantly weaker than the "comprehensiveness" required of featured articles; it allows shorter articles, articles that do not cover every major fact or detail, and overviews of large topics.
  4. ^ Vandalism reversions, proposals to split or merge content, good faith improvements to the page (such as copy editing), and changes based on reviewers' suggestions do not apply. Nominations for articles that are unstable because of unconstructive editing should be placed on hold.
  5. ^ Other media, such as video and sound clips, are also covered by this criterion.
  6. ^ The presence of images is not, in itself, a requirement. However, if images (or other media) with acceptable copyright status are appropriate and readily available, then some such images should be provided.

GOCE copy edit February 2012[edit]

  • Lead section: "CSR-GHRDC" links to Competition Success Review but that article does not mention GHRDC. Same in the "Accredition and Rankings" section. Later, in the rankings table, GHRDC (alone) is linked to Competition Success Review, which is even more confusing. Remember, Wikipedia is for international readership, and these things will generally be unfamiliar outside India.  Done Fixed the wikilinks.
  • Lead section: "NASSCOM and Silicon India" links to NASSCOM, but what is Silicon India? It isn't mentioned in the NASSCOM article.  Done Changed the wikilink to NASSCOM.
  • "Departments and courses" -- "Architecture": FNs 15 & 16 appear not to mention that the architecture course is 5 years. http://acharya.ac.in/barch.html does mention this, if you want to add that.  Done Added the reference as per your suggestion.

Enough for one day. Maybe more tomorrow. --Stfg (talk) 22:04, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • FN13 (ref name="acharya_a") is a .docx -- a zipped folder. That's no use.  Done Replaced the FN with a .pdf format reference.
  • "Governing council": lists 12 members, not 11. FN56 does not list a nominee of the University Grants Commission. I cannot check FN13 (see previous).  Done Agreed.
  • For future reference: in many cases of {{cite web}} in the article, the title of the article has been appended to the "url=" field. You shouldn't do this. I've dealt with those examples I noticed as I went along, but there are some more that need fixing.  Done I will be careful hereafter.
  • "Campus" -- "Hostels and Canteens": I have removed the link to Coffee Day's "about us" page (was FN68). This does not say that there is one on this campus, so it's not a citation. It's merely a promotional link for Coffee Day.  Done Agreed.
  • "Hovercraft": says "... 2-stroke engine powered by Race Engine Technology". How can an engione be powered by a magazine?!  Done I'm extremely sorry for this. I will check the wikilinks thoroughly hereafter.

All done. One thing: be careful to check what you wikilink to. For example, the International Academy for Competency Enhancement was described as a finishing school. Now click the link and see what that really is :)) --Stfg (talk) 14:53, 18 February 2012 (UTC)  Done I regret my edit in which I mistakenly added this wikilink. Will be more careful in future. Thanks, Sourav Mohanty (talk) 17:38, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't apologise! :)) We're collaborating -- it's all good. Thanks for dealing with these points. Actually, the "Race Engine Technology" thing still needs clarifying. Why capitalised and italicised? What does it refer to? --Stfg (talk) 10:48, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know exactly what "R.A.C.E technology" stands for, hence I thought it to be the name of some 'specialized' technology and hence italicized the name. Here's what the paragraph from the FN says :

" The overall size of this craft, designed and built completely by the students, is 8.5 feet and uses a Yezdi Roadking 2-stroke, 250cc, 16 bhp engine with R.A.C.E technology. " Sourav Mohanty (talk) 13:53, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. Yes, it does seem likely to be a specialized technology (not a reason to italicize, though). It could stand for a lot of things -- see this, for example. This is part of why "alphabet soup" (too many unnecessary acronyms) is best avoided. I feel that, if we can't discover what it means, it probably shouldn't be in the article. (Although a Roman Army and Chariot Experience in a hovercraft could be quite fun :)) --Stfg (talk) 14:33, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, it should be removed. Sourav Mohanty (talk) 07:34, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifications[edit]

  • Lead section : I do not know what exactly 'NRV' and 'JMJ' exactly stand for. The primary sources do not provide the expansion of acronyms. See [1] and [2].
  • Replaced co-curricular with extracurricular.
  • Replaced soft skills with English language skills.
  • Section- "Student projects" : Here's the paragraph (from the FN) which indicates the cost efficiency - " While the hovercraft that the Indian Navy uses is acquired for about Rs 30 to 40 lakh, Pradeep says, there's cost them about Rs 60,000! Of course, those hovercraft are far more equipped with GPS and other paraphernalia and can also carry much higher loads, but we believe we still can build an equally sophisticated hovercraft for a lot lesser than what the Navy pays! "

Sourav Mohanty (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent. I've removed the tags, as the sources saying NRV and JMJ are official ones. "Cost-efficient" is unclear in what it refers to (construction costs or running costs), so I've suggested wording that I hope is clearer. --Stfg (talk) 10:55, 19 February 2012 (UTC)  Done Strongly agree with your suggestions . Sourav Mohanty (talk) 13:15, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this is the right place to address this, but this wikipedia entry is linked with its "facebook page" and in the details it shows the location of the institute as "Milan, Italy". --Sandaek (talk) 21:58, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GA assessment review required[edit]

Thanks to a almost exact duplication of this page, down to the Good Article template, made by Sumanthg621, Acharya Polytechnic came up in the New Pages feed, and I was very puzzled to see it already marked as a Good Article. My confusion just increased when I read it through and kept seeing all sorts of dubious Wikipedia content - I saw what seemed to be substantial copyright violation from this page, and also lesser copyvio from here. Of course, those might be copied from the 2011 version of this article, so there may not actually be a problem, but it definitely didn't look like an article that could ever have passed a GA review. I think that a full review is thereby needed, but as it isn't a subject I know anything about I do not feel confident I could do the review properly. However, it does need flagging up, just to make sure it still passes muster. Mabalu (talk) 13:58, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Mabalu: Prose is poor Although Iced Earth were scheduled to perform at the fest, but backed out due to the denial of Visa by the Indian embassy, short jarring sentences. Focus is off, too much about a heavy metal concert. Relies too much on lists. See of blue for companies that is pretty promotional. Will give a chance for Sourav Mohanty to respnd, but I am inclined to agree that this needs reassessment. Thanks for flagging it. AIRcorn (talk) 01:34, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removing ancient rankings[edit]

I propose to remove all rankings five years old or more (2012 and older). The institution is no longer top 50, and hasn't been for years, keeping them in the article is misleading and promotional. --Muhandes (talk) 14:44, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Careers360 ranking[edit]

While waiting to see if anyone has a comment about my above proposal, I felt I had to remove the misleading Careers360 ranking statement. First AA+ is not a very high ranking, it is "Fair"[3] which is the fourth possible ranking in the state[4] and sixth overall. Not mentioning this is misleading. Second, this is state level, AIT didn't even rank in the national level. Finally, this was 2012, not mentioned current ranking. In 2016 it ranked AAA, the worst possible ranking to still be mentioned in the list[5] and the same for 2017[6]. This doesn't put the institute even close to top 50 as it claims to be. In fact, it puts it at 261-500. Keeping the current statement is simply misleading and promotional. --Muhandes (talk) 15:16, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment[edit]

* My comments on this from a year ago can be found on the article talk page here. To see what the page looked like at the point at which it was awarded GA status, here is a link. I have no real input to put here, I simply noticed a problematic GA thanks to someone trying to create a new article which essentially duplicated this page (right down to including the GA template when copy-pasting!) and flagged up on the talk page.
