Date of death[edit]

It is July 28th. For 2 years this article was wrong. Lincher 18:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Time to remove the stub tags ?[edit]

The article is already very informative. Surely the time has come to remove both the stub tags? DFH 20:31, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is also wrong. Pais himself says that he was not a colleague of Einstein at Princeton. He exchanged views with Einstein while walking between the Institute and Einstein's home on Mercer Street. See 'Subtle is the Lord' A. Pais Chap. 1. Ivan Sayer

While I agree that the "colleague of Einstein at Princeton" is misleading, they were technically "colleagues" in that they were physicsists in the same department at the same institution at the same time. It would probably be more meaningful to mention that, while Einstein's role there was fading, Pais was working with a new generation of famous scientists, and under the directorship of Oppenheimer.

As for stub status, there are still some sections of this article that need development, especially the section regarding Pais's research work. Maybe those sections should be flagged as stubs? Ronald W Wise 00:30, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erroneous name[edit]

"Trusha" is not a Dutch name. It is probably a misspelling of Truusje (diminuitive of Truus, a common if old-fashioned Dutch name). Google could not enlighten me. Any ideas? JFW | T@lk 23:37, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Land-Weber reference, "Trusha" was the familiar name they called Tirtsah van Amerongen. I believe this was verified by Pais's autobiography as well. Ronald W Wise 02:17, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Biography[edit]

I believe the claim that Pais' biography of Oppenheimer is "the most complete to date" no longer stands. It has been superseded by a new biography of Oppenheimer by Ray Monk (hardcover published 15 Nov 2012, paperback published 7 Nov 2013: see this link to Amazon).
